I live to see another day!

I lived, woo!
I was in critical condition and in the ICU up until this morning -- I went into diabetic ketoacidosis after apparently getting sudden onset diabetes. It was MISERABLE -- getting woken up every hour for blood tests and injections. We're pretty sure I'm type 1 based on how quickly my symptoms came on, among other things. (genetics and I'm not obese/my diet was not something that could cause type 2) I got a lot of lifestyle changes and a lot of things I need to educate myself on, but I'm feeling so much better now that I've gotten treatment. Insulin is great, and expensive.
I did have a lot of issues after getting discharged -- I managed to get my insulin filled last second to my usual pharmacy, but they gave me the wrong needles so I had to panic-call my doctor to call the pharmacy across town to get an emergency filling so that I can get my insulin tonight and not worry about going back into DKA. I have everything now to where I can live at home, yay!
I'm very thankful to my husband, my best friend, and my family that came and saw me. I was only alone for maybe 30 minutes the entire almost 3 days I was there. My sister drove 5 hours to stay the night with me the first night, and my best friend and husband took turns switching watching our dogs so that they can also be with me.
I'm going to try to work tomorrow but take it easy. Now that I feel a lot better, my motivation to draw is back which is great. I hope you all have a great day! Thank you all for the kind words on the last few posts. This is probably the worst week of my life and I'm hopeful it'll get better from here!

2024-02-06 07:21:05 +0000 UTCMy mother and little sister are both type one diabetics! Watching my sister go through the adjustment of the disease was rough but it is completely managable especially with things like an insulin pump or Dexcom so you dont have to prick your finger every time to take your sugar ☺️ you got this mamas! You're amazing and resilient

2024-02-05 08:14:13 +0000 UTCSo I just joined a bit before this happened (I had already known and followed for Star Children, though I am pretty behind on both that, and Star Catcher too - though Star Catcher more than Star Children, because I have known about and followed Star Children longer -. Like I have already pretty much, with Star Catcher I had just found out about it basically. In comparison to TEB and Star Children and just in general basically), because I found out about The Exorcist's Bracelet, got completely caught up with it, and fell in love w/ it. So I wanted to read some episodes ahead for it (which I did. Both the finished parts and/or episodes and the storyboards for future episodes), and see some of ur other stuff (like some Amy x Ryder stuff - other couples too, though. ^^ -, Star Children stuff, and Star Catcher stuff too). Anyways, my main point is, I fell in love with ur stuff (esp. TEB, which I got super hooked on, and it's characters and/or etc. But Star Children and Star Catcher and it's characters too, are great, and I should get more caught up on them. P.S.: It is cool to see ur characters in different contexts across ur works. Like Star Children characters in Star Catcher and Star Children and/or Star Catcher children in TEB), which is why I joined ur Patreon, but I can wait some if I have to, to see more of ur amazing stuff on here and/or etc.! I just hope u take it easy, and recover. I am so sorry this happened. Though it is nice u always had loved ones and/or people u cared about near u. I am sorry about the flooding that happened w/ ur house too. I just hope stuff gets (even) better for you soon! That is it for me, for now. See ya (for now)!

2024-02-05 00:06:01 +0000 UTCI haven't gotten my official diagnosis just yet, still need to see a endocrinologist but every doctor/nurse was sure it was closer to type 1 than 2. It's just so crazy how my body literally was like?? nope?? no more insulin???? I've had it for a while apparently, based on my A1C -- I just never go to the doctor and never got blood work done before

2024-02-05 00:04:47 +0000 UTCYAAAAAAY! 🎉 🎉 🎉 I'm so glad that you're back home and (hopefully) comfortable! I'm sure that must've been frightening... To be diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic is crazy, because that means you've had diabetes since you were born. That's something that isn't missed though... There is a version of diabetes that is similar to type 1 called LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults), so same thing happens which is your pancreas stops making insulin. LADA sets in gradually like type 2, but it's not reversible with diet and lifestyle changes unlike type 2. So LADA is sometimes referred to as type 1.5 diabetes. Since it is sudden, it seems more like LADA aka type 1.5. A sudden gradual onset, so over time your pancreas stopped making insulin (this happens because your cells start attacking/damaging the cells in the pancreas). ANATOMY 101
