Today sucks
Added 2024-01-28 18:26:30 +0000 UTCHey all. The pipe to my sump pump burst and absolutely flooded my craw space, leaving about 1.5 feet of standing water. It took numerous phone calls — one plumber literally saying “I don’t know what to tell you” before hanging up on me — and two visits from my water company to get the flooding to stop. A plumber is coming over between 6pm-midnight to look at the damage and fix the pipe, and to tell us if our brand new water heater is toasted (its in about a foot of standing water)
I literally haven’t cried so much in a long time and there’s no tears left. As soon as I finished crying, I had to console my husband too. Tomorrow the plumbers are coming to take care of the flooding so we can give a detailed report of the damages to our insurance company.
I’m not sure how much I’m going to draw — I have buffer for the next few weeks but I’m rapidly losing that buffer. I wanted to work on TEB but that’s clearly not happening. I’m just numb

For everyone this applies too: if you are on city water (rental or owned doesn’t matter) you can shut your own water off with a $12 water shut off key or a crescent wrench. It’s typically the same place the city measures your water usage. You are the only one you can really depend on to save yourself from this kind of water damage (unless you have a cool neighbor). Anyone else is too far away. Rotania I am so sorry this information comes too late for you and you won’t hurt my feelings none of you want this comment done. Please let me (and the rest of us I’m sure) know if you need anything from us.

2024-01-29 00:08:24 +0000 UTCRotaniah, I'm so sorry you are going through this! Water is a fierce destructive force and indoor plumbing is a tricky balance between convenience and disaster. Hang in there and don't worry about working until your home gets cleaned and dried! I hope everyone will join me in bumping up our Patreon donations a bit to cover repairs.
