Infinite Crisis Reaction

This is the last of our beautiful Smallville on to the next adventure hope you guys enjoy

Comments

This does not take place "10 years after the 7 year time skip." It takes place in 2019, so only 6 years after the end of Season 11. They are not timeline hopping. Alternate dimensions take place concurrently. So this is not canon to Smallville, despite your desire for it to be.

I only watched the first season of it then got distracted with other shows lol. I really enjoyed it though. Good choice!

If you ever do another vote for TV shows in the future, you should definitely add Teen Wolf as a choice.. I have a feeling because how you really enjoyed Smallville that you would really enjoy that TV show.

I loved your post and completely agree.

I love his podcasts!

I don't KNOW this, but I HEARD that they depowered him in the season 11 comics which are canon. I'm upset with this choice just as much as you but I can't pin it on the Arrowverse this time.

Olivia

I completely agree. Heard a Superman and Lois series is airing with this cast, count me out. I already have the only two versions I need.

As a final goodbye to Samllville, I recommend you to watch this 30 sec long Series Finale trailer from the CW. It beautifully embodies everything we love about Smallville. EPIC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZBjzVhej_U

Couple more things. This takes place 10 years after we last saw them which could either mean 10 years after he became Superman or 10 years after the last time we actually saw him which was the 7 year time skip. In that case it would be closer to 2028 in this scene. Makes more sense as Clark and Lois have aged, are married and have daughters. They seem to have raised their daughters on the farm and it looks like they were still city living in 2017. Also every earth isn't in the same year according to the story so it tracks. The second thing on the production side is based on what we got from the rest of Crisis, Smallville was best served getting what it got. Neither of the other 2 Supermen got a good showing. Even CW's Superman who has a show coming out next year. The Smallville scene was really a highlight of a lackluster crossover. Besides a couple of the Black Lightning bits. IMO

I really liked the scene. It was very similar to a Superman comic called "What Ever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow." In it we find Lois being interviewed by a Daily Planet reporter about Superman's final days, 10 years after he was last seen. Superman's remaining rogues gallery attacked Superman and those closest to him in one final battle as we see the deaths of Pete Ross, Lana Lang, and Jimmy Olsen. After Superman accidentally kills one of his villains he steps into a Gold Kryptonite chamber and is never seen again. The story ends with us seeing Lois' husband who's a mechanic named Sam Elliot who is actually Clark Kent under an assumed identity. After the reporter has gone, Clark tells Lois that Superman was overrated, too wrapped up in him self, and thought himself to be the savior of mankind. He was content with the life they'd built with their young son Jonathan. The Clark we see in the Crisis segment gave me the same feeling. He really felt like a seasoned, I've seen it all type of guy which is something you'd expect from someone who was superman for a decade. But the weight was removed from his shoulders as well. He never looked more confident in who he was and what he had in that moment. It also reflects the conversation he had with Sam Lane in Ambush (Same writers for the Clark and Lois segment of Crisis). Sam says that even though he got to be a hero protecting his country, if he had it to do all over again he'd spend more time with his family. I think when Clark realized he was going to be a father he made a choice. I think more than any other live action Clark Kent, Smallville's Clark was ruled by " destiny" in a lot of ways. Him realizing that his biggest purpose in life was to be a father at this time at the height of his career as Superman has a beauty to it. Also having 2 girls like Lois and Lucy is also very poetic. Knowing how hard it was growing up with an absentee father for Lois and Lucy, I'd imagine the conversations Clark and Lois had about making different choices for their family. At the end of the day I see it as Clark setting an example for hundreds of other heroes to follow. Smallville Season 11 comics are a great example of how big the world of heroes became following Clark's example. Maybe he's allowed a time of rest. And it doesn't mean he'll never be Superman again. It's a world where things are reversed all the time. Just takes a little magic.

Hated this scene. It doesn't even fit within the canon/continuity of Smallville in regards to both the timeline and the characters. Most Smallville fans have considered this another alternate universe, like the one that Clark Luthor came from. Because our Clark Kent would never give up on saving people. This scene presents a false dichotomy. He doesn't need to give up his powers to be happy or have a family. Both can happen at the same time, like he does in the comics. This doesn't respect Smallville or Clark's journey at all. It was only done because they didn't want to have to deal with why our Clark Kent couldn't be more involved (and so he wouldn't outshine) in whatever the Arrowverse was doing. Clark loved saving people, and would never give up. You can't throw away TEN YEARS of his journey so you can do a 4 minute scene on another show that doesn't care about respecting what Smallville did. So, I do not consider this canon to Smallville.

Im glad you like the scene i kind of expected you to have different reaction since you were watching it so close after finishing Smallville compared to most who were waiting almost 20 years, It was a good end for those characters I think. It was kind of like smallville passing the torch to the new superman in my eyes, even though Smallville will always be superior, Tom Welling has said he was originally going to say no to coming back until he read the scene stating it was the one thing he couldn't say no too.

At first I was a little disappointed he wasn’t superman anymore but after all that was the life the SV version of CK always wanted, a simple life in the farm raising his kids and taking care of his family, but I think is only for awhile, he eventually will be Superman again if the world needs him. The cast for Lois, Clark and lex is awful, the worst versions of these characters ever!

I also believe he used some kind of blue kryptonite, either somewhere engraved in his watch or ring or something just a Dax-Ur did (as you mentioned) to live a human life.

Without going too far down this rabbit hole of people's takes on this, I'm just gonna say I really liked it and dip LOL EDIT: Actually since you were looking for a ring, I just wanted to say my head canon is that he has on blue kryptonite like the one dude in season 7 and is temporarily stripping himself of powers to raise his kids. He was Superman for a good stint anyway, I really like that he gets to be happy with Lois and kids. Also, loved that Tom's acting reminds me of Jonathan a ton in this scene.

I don't either, but it was a cute.

Olivia

I didn't get a good look at it but I assumed it was Jonathan's which I'm fairly confident is not made of gold k. Gold k just needs one exposure to depower him, he doesn't need to be around it constantly like blue k.

Olivia

I was conflicted about you watching this. On the one hand I really did want to see your reaction, but on the other you have ZERO context for what's going on in this scene lol. The names and ages of their daughters are unknown as far as I know, but I like to imagine they have twins named Lara and Ella (after Clark and Lois' late mothers). You NEED to check out Michael's podcast. It's called Inside if You with Michael Rosenbaum in YT.

Olivia

I haven't kept up with any of these shows but It's cool to see some of the cast again. On that note, if you ever have some free time you might want to check out some of the interviews with the cast and the bloopers. Tom and Michael are hilarious, especially together.

I still don’t like it. His destiny is to be Superman.Every time he fought his destiny bad things happen. Also don’t forget that the finale was technically in 2018 and they were working in the daily planet still.

One possibility is that, if you notice he's wearing a watch and there was a theroy that the watch is made out of gold or even blue kryptonite which is how he got rid of his powers.

It would've been a nice surprise for you when you got to the Arrowverse crossover when you get there, but someone just couldn't wait and spoiled it. Hopefully no one spoils anything else for you when you eventually do get to the Arrowverse, but you'll figure out what's going on when you get to Crisis on Infinite Earths.
