I think you're really going to start enjoying this show a lot more soon. By the way when they are explaining how the techniques work it really isn't all that important it's usually just some lose somewhat ambiguous explanation to justify why whatever crazy attack or ability "makes sense" I wouldn't bother too much worrying about the minutiae of the technical explanations. It's not like AoT where you really want to digest and understand every single bit of lore to understand the full picture. It's usually a more messy version of something like "the water attack worked because that guy is a fire curse"

It’s definitely not the case that he only enjoys action, he says multiple times throughout AOT watch alongs that he enjoys the parts of that show where there isn’t any action. Just a case of JJK being less about storyline so it needs that action to keep it fresh. Just personal preference.

The first half is just gojo trying to give amanai the best end of her life as he could, as even if Riko had no problem with it, he knew the assimilation was wrong. Obviously we see at the end that Riko deep down didn't want to assimilate which makes the end even more hard hitting😢
