What's amazing about this show is how tightly written it is. You're going to recontextualize so many things you thought you understood about this story so many times it's crazy. And it will be well earned EVERY time. The question becomes, what else are you missing right in front of your eyes? And how earth shattering a revelation will it be when it gets brought to your attention and every other instance clicks?

Now that you've seen it, you can catch all the obvious clues in season 1 and something really obvious in this very episode, actually. In the recap, as the tower is about to fall and Ymir jumps up to the top, scaring everyone...just uhhhh... whatcha about to do in the corner over there, Bertholdt? Why does it look like you're about to bite your hand like Eren does to Titan up? It's ridiculous how in your face it's been and how suspicious those 3 have been all while somehow flying mostly under the radar.

This has got to be one of my favorite reveals in any anime, show, or movie god damn. GOOSEBUMPS!!! Executed to perfection. I just love the subtlety of Reiner revealing who he is to Eren and the way that for a moment they’re conversation becomes a side conversation before we get smacked in the face with reality and all doubts are incinerated. It builds up so beautifully throughout the series dropping little hints that you can really appreciate on rewatches. I love this episode and this series so damn much.

i bought the patreon just to watch the build up to this moment. so happy to be watching this

Theres a very subtle and cool hint in the beginning of this episode. When titan Ymir launches herself back to the top of the tower, you can see that Bertold was about to bite his hand to transform into a titan but chose to not do it.
