Such a strange show. Tonally it's all over the place but I feel like this episode set up some interesting parameters which will lend the future eps some depth.

2023-07-11 20:58:22 +0000 UTCIt's cliche to say but this show really gets better as it goes on. There's a lot to set up with how specific the power system and world building is but by episode 12/13 to the rest of the season everything connects in ways I've never seen a series do before and looks amazing. Not to mention season 2 will have the best new generation anime arc (imo) animated in about a few months, totally worth catching up for!

2023-07-11 04:29:53 +0000 UTCHey JD Long time sub from the rock reacts days here here. Glad you are getting into anime. Sorry if this is long winded but I genuinely think you may find some value in this as a newbie to anime. I notice as you you watch, some elements don't land well E.g the tonal shifts in JJK and some elements of AOT like sasha's (potato girl) antics. The Hardcore sub watchers will hate me for this but I genuinely believe that you will resonate more with those elements watching in dub. Japanese voices when showcasing high key emotions like pain and anger are GODLY but not being a native Japanese speaker means certain more subtle communication cues go right over your head ( sarcasm and irony ) and that is what those tonal shifts rely on predominantly. The subtitles translates faithfully but a good dub finds an English equivalent phrase/sentence that will portray the humour and allow you to resonate. Just like you I have a strong connection with Japanese media but watching both sub and dub has made me appreciate both. The AOT dub is actually a masterpiece (especially in later seasons). Long time anime sub watchers always fail to realise that newbies need time to adjust to anime tropes for the Sub to fully resonate. Dub is the way to do this. No need to change what your are doing but my suggestion is that you give the episodes a quick rewatch in dub in your free time. If you find the tonal shifts and comedic aspects go down easier make the switch. Just my two cents mate. Enjoying the reactions.

2023-07-10 08:43:06 +0000 UTCSo first 3 eps are over and this is where the show really kicks in from here on out. These were just to introduce you to each character

2023-07-09 01:23:03 +0000 UTCI understand your critique of the tone very well, it surely has it's own style of mixing comedy/light hearted scene and horrifying shit, but with episode 4 the tone of the show starts being much more consistent

2023-07-08 22:16:48 +0000 UTCThis show starts slow and all over the place that I wanted to stop watching it but it picked up tremendously and I'm glad I stuck with it
