Ch: 5 [The Key]

The old man's eyes gleamed with a mix of satisfaction and intrigue. "Ah, a most interesting choice, young one. May I ask why you choose this old rusty key?"

Jack looked at the old man with a determined gaze. "There's something different about this key," he began, his voice filled with a mix of curiosity and conviction. "While the other keys may hold grander and more apparent powers, this one seems to carry a hidden potential. It may not shine or radiate with energy like the rest, but I believe there is more to it than meets the eye."

"Just like you," The old man said as he swung his wand. The arrays of keys disappeared in a blink of an eye, "Isn't it? Different from others, yet special..."

After a pause, Jack spoke, "But what should I do with this key? What does it unlock?"

The old man leaned back on the worn-out bench, a thoughtful expression on his face. Considering Jack's question, he tapped his fingers against his long white beard.

"That's for you to find out. Now, it's time for you to go back," The Old man said with a lonely tone.

Jack's heart sank at the old man's words. He had hoped for more guidance, for some hint as to what lay ahead. But it seemed that his time in the Veil was coming to an end.

"I must go back already?" Jack asked, a tinge of disappointment coloring his voice.

The old man nodded, his gaze filled with a mixture of wisdom and reassurance. "Yes, young one. As much as I would have liked to have a nice conversation with you and guide you further, I am afraid I can't. You see inside staying too long inside the Veil possess certain dangers that you are not ready to face."

Jack's disappointment turned to understanding as he absorbed the old man's words. He knew that he had much to learn and discover, and rushing into the unknown could be perilous. With a nod, he accepted the old man's wisdom.

"Thank you for everything," Jack said sincerely, rising from the bench. "I will remember your guidance and the purpose that lies ahead of me."

The old man's eyes crinkled with a warm smile, "You are just like your mother... See you soon, young master." He went on his knees and bowed before Jack, surprising him.

Jack's eyes widened at the old man's gesture of respect. The realization struck him that there was more to this encounter than he had initially understood. The old man's words, his knowledge of Jack's mother, and his reverence left Jack with a sense of awe and curiosity.

"Wait," Jack called out, his voice filled with a mix of confusion and anticipation. "How do you know about my mother? Who are you? You are my elder, please don't bow,"

The old man slowly rose from his bow, his eyes meeting Jack's with a profound gaze, "See you soon..."

A blinding white flash swept over the space.

When the light subsided, Jack found himself back in his room, lying on his bed. He blinked, trying to process the abrupt transition from the Veil to his familiar surroundings. Was it all just a dream? Or had he truly ventured into the realm beyond the dreams?

The old man's words echoed in his mind, reminding him of the path that lay before him. Jack sat up, feeling a renewed sense of purpose coursing through his veins. He clutched the old rusty key tightly in his hand, its presence a constant reminder of the mysteries that awaited him.

'He knows my mother?!' Jack wondered.

7 years ago Jack lost his parents.

Jack's parents, Emma and Daniel, were renowned archaeologists who dedicated their lives to uncovering the secrets of ancient civilizations. Their passion for exploration and discovery had always fascinated Jack, who spent his early years listening to their captivating stories of distant lands and hidden treasures. They were a loving family, bound by a shared sense of wonder and adventure.

One fateful day, when Jack was just five years old, tragedy struck. Emma and Daniel embarked on an expedition to an unexplored region, drawn by whispers of an ancient artifact said to possess unimaginable power. It was a dangerous journey, but they were fueled by their insatiable thirst for knowledge and the desire to make a profound impact on the world.

Weeks turned into months, and Jack eagerly awaited his parents' return, hoping to hear their tales of triumph and marvel. But as the days stretched on, hope began to wane, replaced by an unsettling sense of dread. It was as if a veil of uncertainty had settled over their home, casting a shadow of sadness on young Jack's heart.

News of their disappearance spread, and search parties scoured the treacherous terrain in a desperate attempt to find Emma and Daniel. Jack clung to the hope that they would be found, alive and well, but deep down, a sense of foreboding grew with each passing day.

Months turned into years, and eventually, the search efforts dwindled. The world moved on, leaving Jack to grapple with the grief and uncertainty of losing his parents. He was taken in by an orphanage, where he found solace in the companionship of other children who had experienced their own share of loss and heartache.

As Jack grew older, he carried the weight of his parents' disappearance with him, a constant reminder of the fragility of life and the lingering mysteries that shrouded their fate. He yearned for answers, for closure, but they remained elusive, buried deep within the sands of time.

It was during these years of longing and introspection that Jack discovered his unique ability to see and communicate with magical beings. They became his confidants, his guides in a world that seemed both familiar and enigmatic. Through their ethereal presence, he found a glimmer of hope, a connection to something greater than himself.

And now, standing at the threshold of his twelfth year, Jack stood with the old rusty key in his hand, ready to embark on a journey that held the promise of unlocking his true potential and unraveling the mysteries of his past. The encounter in the Veil had ignited a spark within him, a determination to discover the truth about his parents.

Jack decided that the next time, he enters the Veil, he will find that old man and ask him about his parents. He knows that the old man holds answers that could potentially shed light on the fate of Emma and Daniel. With his newfound purpose and the old rusty key as a symbol of his journey, Jack was filled with a resolute determination to uncover the truth and honor his parents' legacy.

But before he could venture into the Veil again, Jack knew there were preparations to be made. He needed to gather information, learn about the world of wizards and witches, and understand the magic that flowed within him. His decision to embark on this path meant that he had to leave Sara behind.

Jack's heart ached at the thought of leaving his sister, Sara, behind. She was his only family, and the responsibility of caring for her weighed heavily on his shoulders. But he also understood that this journey was necessary, not just for his own growth but also for Sara's future.

His eyes went toward Sara's sleeping face as the rays of sun entered the room through the gaps in the curtains, casting a gentle glow on her peaceful expression.

"Hey, Jax," Jack called the elf.

"Yes, master," Jax appeared out of thin air.

"You know many magic, right?" Jack asked with his eyes still on Sara's face.

"Yes, master," Jax replied, his voice tinged with a hint of curiosity.

"Could you make her forget me?" Jack turned toward Jax.

Jax's eyes widened with surprise at Jack's request. "Forget you, master? But why would you want that?"
