Collectible ART
Added 2021-03-21 21:12:48 +0000 UTCHello,
I'd like to share some thoughts with you and ask for your opinion or suggestions on this 'problem'.
I'm not sure if you know anything about NFTs (non-fungible token) It is a topic that is becoming increasingly popular among digital artists at the moment, but it does not seem a good way to sell my work. I believe that there are honest ways to collect real art than bet absurd amounts of money just on the idea of property, not on actually obtaining that property.
For me NFTs is a consumer scam, among many other things.
This whole revolution in the digital world has made me think about how I could really sell collectible art. That is, make a drawing and sell it as something exclusive to a single person, with the guarantee that only this person will be owner of that work. I would honestly like to find the best way to do it and show that we 'artists' can sell real collectible art.
In my ignorance, I thought I would open a tier here on Patreon for just one person (of considerably high value, but not higher than a commission. Maybe $1200) This person would receive 1 exclusive drawing per month or every two months with the following characteristics:
It would always be my OCs.
It would be part of a private collection.
Only that person and I would see that drawing, that is, that drawing would not be published on any social network.[suggestion]
We would agree that this drawing should never be published anywhere, to guarantee its value. [suggestion]
The person who owns the drawing can resell it in the future, but not make digital or physical copies.
All kind of personal use is completely allowed, of course.
Drawing would be sent email to email and that person could save it to an external hard drive, like me, to protect it.[suggestion]
[...]
But I am not entirely satisfied with the idea, I have also considered sending signed physical drawing but I don't know.
In any case, it is just a superficial idea that I wanted to show.
I would like to get your feedback, for me you are very important since you are here supporting my work and personal growth, that is why I feel morally obliged to ask for your advice, suggestions and support, to try to find together a way to show the world that we can do it in a healthier way.
Thank you.

I believe that I'm not the only one who thinks some sort physical drawing or print or so on would be nice. With the idea of collectability, I think you could sign them all but mainly start a series and number them in order. So have some sort of theme and does a series of 12 paintings, then switch the theme for another set.

2021-03-23 19:54:45 +0000 UTCBasically, I think your considerations are good. I want to give you the following food for thought (call me old-fashioned): I "buy" the pictures here. Then I don't just want to use the particularly good ones as a desktop background, but also hang them up properly printed in my apartment. Letting the images gather dust as mere files is a devaluation of your work. From my side, the greatest praise for your work is that I want to hang it in my apartment. This should also be taken into account and allowed on your part. I don't want to earn any money with it, but the private use of your pictures should be permitted and encouraged. Or would you mind if someone values your work so much that they even hang it up in their apartment?

2021-03-23 19:42:57 +0000 UTCThe NFTs market does not have any similarities with the service that I want to offer. This is about selling an original [not a commission] to one person or a very small number of people. I am already doing something similar in the $15 tier, there I am offering exclusive collections only for patrons of that tier. My lower tier patrons do not have access to see the next Vintage Helmet or Fabergé Egg, for example. In addition, I am aware of speculation problems, so that I know that there may be people speculating with my commissions, it is inevitable. I mean, it is impossible to know if someone in the future will speculate with one of my commissions. In fact, there may be someone right now doing it with an NFT of one of my drawings without my permission.

2021-03-22 14:47:17 +0000 UTCIf you want to do private commissions that don't get posted to Patreon that's up to you. Doesn't matter if you tie it to an NFT or not. IMO, no one subscribing to your Patreon is going to like the idea of you creating exclusive art they can't access ( except for speculating collectors ). Your art may go into the hands of someone who doesn't event like it, they just have it sitting in a folder waiting for the value to go up.

2021-03-22 14:07:23 +0000 UTCYou can do whatever you want with the drawing you purchase, that was only my protection suggestions. But if the drawing is copied, stolen or distributed, it will not be my responsibility.

2021-03-22 11:42:55 +0000 UTCScam [when you buy NFTs, you are not buying the drawing, only the 'token', which may lose its value or disappear over time] money laundering, environmental problems, art theft [...] Too many bad things just for money. Steel posters look very interesting, I did not know them.

2021-03-22 11:38:34 +0000 UTCI do not like paid raffles, they seem unfair to people who pay and unfortunately they never win, they are also banned on Patreon by the way.

Even so, your definition about art meaning is personal, I am collector and I do not show my collections to anyone, each one has their own concept of collecting.

2021-03-22 05:01:58 +0000 UTCI’m not a fan of NFTs for the reason that art should she shared and enjoyed, otherwise it’s just a currency to sell/trade only. What about a raffle tier? People in that tier each month get to raffle for a chance at an original piece?
2021-03-22 01:49:46 +0000 UTCApparently NFT's are extremely bad for the environment too, so not good idea. Maybe it could be a good idea to sell a drawing in some form of posters or something that can be framed maybe. Steel posters have become pretty popular now too, so you can consider that.
2021-03-21 22:54:49 +0000 UTCTo have a unique work of yours and only back it up in the manner you suggest is an interesting idea, but I think something important has been glossed over. Would the owner not want to display this art? How are they allowed to display it? A digital frame? What if it is on display during a birthday party or home appraisal and a photo is accidentally taken? Exclusivity and pride/joy don’t seem to play nicely in this case.

2021-03-21 21:40:55 +0000 UTCIn my mind, the fact that the artwork is available online at all--even if theoretically that access is limited to just artist and buyer--seems to indicate that it could be reached by someone with enough skill and determination, and thus stolen in some form. I don't know that there is any way to prevent this completely. What I've done in the past is commission a piece, then have the artist produce a single physical copy which s/he then signs. Thus the signed piece is absolutely unique, although it could certainly be stolen in this physical form as well. . .
