Aha, it looks like the HTTP "referer" is being checked and if it's Patreon (i.e. you came in from a Patreon webpage) then it causes the problem. Having no referer (using a command line downloader) or coming from another IMGUR page works. This is IMGUR's problem, I hope it is a temporary mistake and not a permanent policy change on their part.
