It feels so strange it took me so long to edit these. I was pretty convinced they wouldn't when I took them, but they looked so beautiful on the back of my camera. The ideas kept flowing for me though, and unfortunately my laptop is having a harder and harder time keeping up. I'm problem solving. I took time off from touring this Falla nd winter to give myself a break, but really to problem solve and trouble shoot in my life. My laggin laptop and other things.
I ended up with this idea in my mind by an art piece I saw on pinterest. I felt torn between trying to recreate something more fantasy and something otherwise more realistic and feeling. I have two aesthetics I really like and it was hard to edit as I went back and forth on the direction. Eventually I think the art piece inspiration won out, and then it became a battle of just how inspired did I want to be and how close to the original inspiration do I want to become. That also ripped me back and forth, especially while editing my laptop would die because the cord hasn't been working well and then every edit stroke I made could freeze my laptop for afew seconds to a few minutes.
I have a new laptop and computer now so I can work with mutliple devices. I'm hoping being able to edit on one and have all my other work on the other will help the speeds. I'm about to buy another external hard drive as well. It's amazing how limited these devices are and yet how important they are to me. I do so much on them. I quite like them over the little screen of my phone.
I wanted these photos to convey a sense of Fall and cold, but not look uncomfortable. I like the focus of burnt oranges, black and white. The original art I felt inspried by does this, but with a burnt red instead. Pushing for red didn't feel quite a pretty on these photos. I couldn't quite see it in my head but also when I did try more red it came off unbelievable for this picture. I also could've made the skin paler like the origianl photos, but I think it becomes a bit too edited looking for me. Certain looks work in a drawing (I think the original inspiration is a watercolor or color pencil, but it is burried deep in my memory), that don't with a photograph. I do often think of going back to work on only one image for each set instead because I had the time to deep dive into perfecting one look the way I see it in my head. Otherwise there is a bit of pressure to let it go and be happy with what I've got. There is a value in that as well. Hopefully switching computers for the future sets will speed up my work flow.
