Not to bombard everyone! February ended up being quite the inspiring month! I traveled a lot through New York City, Upstate New York, and Philadelphia. I stayed in Albany a few days, but I didn't take many self portraits of that. I mainly focused on my shoots with others there, and I really enjoyed my airbnb in the area. Albany was probably the most winter filled time I had. Albany had the most snow I got to see. I enjoyed the fire in my airbnb in Albany. It has a wonderful feeling.
I'm surprised I was so much more inspired to shoot in NYC. NYC was so grey! But I guess I don't have a lot of photos outside there. I don't mind grey. Actually I prefer and love the unsaturated look, except walking through what felt like a grey box or tunnel was bleak. I guess in those moments I create my own inspiration.
I took many photos one day in my friend's apartment in Brookyln. They have a Rococo inspired and themed apartment, they rent on PeerSpace. The light came through so nicely one day. I didn't even have a real idea of what I wanted to photograph, but I told myself I was going to make something up.
Then, of course, because it is the catalyst for me going to NYC in February, I went and found a mostly frozen waterfall. Well, kind of. We found a beautiful frozen waterfall, but it was so frozen that we couldn't safely get to it. I found the waterfall int he photos at the side of the road as we drove along. I just cropped out the side walk and guard rail. Magical how you can find the most beautiful spots everywhere if you look for them!. This is a lot easier to photograph too. I wish I'd gotten some really great photos of it, but I'll let it slide with it being my first time to find these. I think next winter, I will look for frozen waterfalls closer to home. We have quite a few just north and west of Georgia, but I hoped to spend time with a friend that also really wanted to shoot with them this last February.
Speaking of places on the side of the road. I found this beautiful abandoned mansion for sale as we drove through upstate. Probably my favorite photos from the trip that I took. The opulence and detail in this mansion really impressed me. I can't believe anyone would leave it behind, but I think it comes down to financial difficulties. The wood was elaborately carved, and the entire kitchen was white marble! Sometimes taking a photo is easier than trying to steal the doors. Just joking.
I had a few airbnbs I shot in. One of the airbnbs in this collection is upstate New York and the other is Philadelphia. I actually have even more photos to edit of my trip, but this is a start. There is so much I've captured but not yet gotten the chance to edit. I tell myself I'll get to them when life slows down, but it hasn't yet. I'm happy to get to experience it. I know that even in 5 or 10 years, the photos will still exist and I can still edit them then. I'd rather give them each the attention they deserve to be great images. this last month, I challenged myself to try to take photos that didn't need editing, which is why I got so many that I can show here. But I'm not always so lucky, and I have a few sets that really do need more attention.
