Was Royal Nonesuch dragooned by a Nazi time traveler? He is actually a much better last ditch designer than this would indicate, however, I would assume his patriotism would cause him to sabotage the design. Either that, or the traitorous Elbonian defense minister started out as a traitorous Nazi firearms dedigner.

Surprised no comments on the "doesn't inspire confidence" meme.
I don't think you can you eyeball if it's the right amount of locking surface except by comparing to similar guns. The barrel has more resistance to moving than a bolt would in the first place (because it weighs more), plus it only feels the force of rifling friction.

Building muscle memory backwards! I guess it didn't matter, they expected the Volksturm to die for the Reich, not stick around to use the next generation of last ditch weaponry...

This is the most Fallout thing I've seen in quite some time. Which figures. It was the end of the world for them.

Well, you don't have to worry about getting a bolt in the face.

Since the rear of the receiver would contain the pressure the bolt would not have a lot of pressure when firing.
