Can they share if they are reacting to the s3 trailer cause I wanna stop having to check if they do or don’t

Flora

Thanks for giving this movie a shot. Speaking of recognizing child actors - Not only is Hidden Figures an inspiring, smart movie full of great character moments, but it also features a more mature Kirsten Dunst.

I saw the movie first and enjoy it but i love the show better!

It definitely was because of the time. This is a mainstream American movie, not foreign independent movies with no budgets, like Banderas and Rea were in. A gay romance movie in America would make no money in 1994. Even now, you really only see that in low budget indies. I'm shocked at how homoerotic it was. They definitely implied a relationship between Louis and Armand.

Blake mentioned that the gay scenes were probably toned down because of the time the movie came out. I don't think it was the time. The actor playing Santiago, Stephen Rea, was in a very controversial transgender themed movie called The Crying Game a couple years prior. Antonio Banderas had done a couple of gay themed movies before this. I think it's because Pitt and Cruise probably didn't want to do gay scenes, or they were advised not to go there. If you want to see Brad Pitt and the actor playing the reporter (Christian Slater) together again, check out the Quentin Tarantino scripted movie True Romance. Kirsten Dunst did a great acting job for a 12 year old; on par with 11 year old Anna Paquin in The Piano, and 11 year old Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense.

Interestingly enough, they also used the movie to more or less build upon the show. For example, the interview year in the movie is 1994, and the atmosphere is minimalist, moody, and candlelit, emphasizing the ancient, detached nature of the vampire. This contrasting with a young, eager, and impatient reporter. As we see, in this movie, this is when they meet for the first, and last, time, lol. Then the interview ends badly. The end. So in both adaptations, Louis’ mental state at this particular time is melancholy, guilt-ridden, and longing for an end to his suffering...and the setting of the first interview is also always a dilapidated hotel room in San Francisco. But in the main TV show, the first interview occurs in 1970, when the interviewer, Daniel, is much younger. Whereas they first meet in the bar and it occurs in much farther detail, leading up to 49 years later where he is now old. This is part of the re-imagining of the story. And thus the basis of the show is Daniel returning (to Dubai) for a second interview, cause the first one got screwed up so bad lmao. In every universe. I love how the series takes it further by turning the interview into a game of "what can the damned say to the damned," where Daniel pushes back on inconsistencies in Louis' story, proving that memory can be manipulated. The 1994 movie keeps the interview as a way to tell a story. The 2022 series uses the interview to challenge the, "truth" of that story; allowing for a more in depth, nuanced, modern, and queer-focused retelling.

Just like in the show, Lestat said 'Enough' because of Claudia's lack of self control when it came to feeding on him initially. She wasn't stopping, and thus he said enough.

I watched the movie years n years ago I loved it watched it multiple times … when I started the show it seemed a bit dragged out at first but then I started loving the extra time given to everything .. I guess it’s similar to game of thrones for those who read the books first vs read the books after the show… u never forget your first … 🧛

Sadly, Anne Rice had a daughter who died at the age of five (same age as Claudia in the book) of leukemia. Rice started to write Interview with the Vampire shortly after her daughter's death. In the movie, they had Claudia be a bit older because the producers didn't think they could get the emotional range they needed from a five-year old actress. Of course in the show, they had Claudia be a bit older still - perhaps for the same reasons. The wikipedia on Anne Rice is super interesting. She had quite a life.
