2024-07-13 11:28:04 +0000 UTCI love that moment of Elena and drenched Damon in the rain under the umbrella. Ngl, 16 year old me had a picture of that as my desktop wallpaper for a while. Aside from Damon being a psycho and snapping that poor lady's neck, I feel like this episode is a marked difference from his behavior up to this point. He's never had Stefan's back so fully without burying it below a "if anyone's going to kill you, it's going to be me" or other breezy line or a cap ulterior motive. He's ready to go in guns blazing, risking his own life, and is openly doing it purely because he cares about his brother and wants to save him. And though we know he feels some kind of something about Elena, we've never seen him be so openly protective and earnest. He manages to relate to her a few times without burying it below 78 layers of sarcasm, cynicism, and feigned apathy. Plus, I love his team up with Rick. I'm not saying he moved any closer to being a good person because he didn't. He's still a murderous vampire. But we did get to see a less guarded side to him a few times which endeared me to his character more.
