Nowadays, when making a comic I usually use it as an opportunity to flex or improve on my drawing skills. In this case, I had to redraw this several times to avoid depicting a child molester as too cool looking or sexy.
The master neologism "Mr. Magoo car" first appeared in episode 2 of The Dismal Jesters Podcast during the "Bleached Butthole's Day Out" film pitch segment. The phrase acts as a comedic stand-in for the Platonic ideal of an old cartoon jalopy, and all the symbolic weight such an image carries. The sort of machine that moves extremely laboriously, constantly loudly sputtering out billows of thick black smoke, chemically and energetically wasteful on an unprecedented scale that one could have only gotten away with in... what, the 30's? 20's? Similar cars can be seen being driven by bumbling henchmen in 101 Dalmations or The Aristocats. It's the sort of machine that is only marginally useful, yet on the verge of complete catastrophic failure at virtually all times. In this way, the modern crypto-mining rig is its modern equivalent, aesthetically sleeker yet far more perverse, as all its pollutant sputtering isn't even used for any physical convenience-- it produces only abstractions. Were humanity to survive, nay, thrive, for the next hundred years, we might produce a similar neologism for the self-evident punchline that a crypto rig might represent to us at that point. "Bucky Centurion Computer", for example. (Based on the titular character from a fictional 2090 cartoon show I just came up with about an old guy with no arms or legs that is constantly getting knocked out of windows, thrown down manholes, stranded on giant swinging steel girders-- that sort of thing)
