On the one hand the already erotic nature of the costume is probably pretty nerve wracking to walk around in given how eye catching it is, so 'passing' probably takes some of the edge off. On the other hand when he is wearing his pretty pink maid outfit it's not exactly a secret the group he is with are all boys.
