This month has had little to no news for you all. We felt that today would be the perfect opportunity to show you guys what we've been working on behind the scenes. Below you will find preview screenshots of the new Tripod model that has been created for the game. Work began on the model on December 4th when I contracted the talented @EldeBH after seeing his 3D art in the artwork channel. Thanks to member @Ev's , we managed to create a 3D scan of his Pegasus tripod model by taking it apart and using thousands of photos of individual pieces. This gave us an obviously unusable mesh with millions of polygons and holes in it but we were able to layer it over the current tripod in game and see all of the faults, inaccuracies, and improvements that could be made. With this 3D scan, we were able to gauge dimensions and create a brand new 3D model from scratch around it. This is the most accurate 3D model of the tripod in the film ever created. What does this mean for development? Unfortunately, if I am being honest, this major change will delay any public release by atleast another month or two. The 3D model has been remade from scratch as well as the rig/skeleton, this means all animations will need to be made again. Now onto the bright side, while this does present a delay, the quality of the tripod and animations will be significantly better and as close to the film as possible. This model also has a much lower polygon count and uses a much simpler rig which will save on performance when doing IK calculations on the toes and legs to conform them to the terrain. The more bones, the more calculations and slower framerate. Multiply this by the amount of tripods on the map at one time and it can have a big impact on performance. @EldeBH has been working nonstop to get the models game ready and has almost completed work on the new Uberpod model which a preview is included below as well. Afterwards, he will bring the models over to substance painter and create the textures which will bring them to life. He has studied every frame of the film showing the machines and crafted each little detail into the models to create these masterpieces. Once the tripods are fully textured and the final details completed (Heatray arms, and Uberpod head), I can begin work on creating the improved animations and plugging them back into the game. Now that the secret has been revealed to patreon supperters, I've given @EldeBH permission to keep this discord channel up to date with his progress on the model & textures. Thank you all for your patience, while things are moving slowly, these are big steps being taken and we are all excited to see how the final product turns out in game.
