Cassie in The Blue Cave

Last autumn, between the workshops I did in Lanzarote, we went on a day excursion to the water cave, AKA The Blue Cave.

It’s flooded most of the time, and you only have an hour or so to work there, before the tide rolls in. The wonderful thing about the cave is that it’s facing north, so there is shade most of the day. The entire sky functions as a large light source, and the dark rocks along the sides create contours on the side of the model and help shape the light.

This was a super fast session, about two minutes in total, as I also wanted to photograph the other three models, and the tide was starting to come in again.
