I heard a podcast the other day about working memory, and it reminded me of several cases during workshops where someone didn’t think through the best sequence (which is what working memory is all about):
I once did a workshop with Zoi (image above) in a massive studio apartment.
Walking around the apartment, one of the participants loved the shower and suggested that we start shooting a set there.
Once you know, it’s clearly not the best idea:
Shooting in a shower with water means wet hair and runny makeup.
This means the model must fix that for the next couple of hours.
And that is not the best use of time during a photoshoot
So we did it as the very last set at the end of the day.
Likewise, when you shoot Shibari or a combination of nude and clothing.
Both are also best left to after shooting nudes.
Shibari (second image with Mynte) inevitably will leave marks on the body (sometimes for days).
Putting on a bra, corset, or a pair of Jeans will also leave marks on the model for a long time (frequently 1-2 hours).
Cold conditions might redden or blotch skin, so even a short burst in a cold environment may require hours of recovery…
If you are outdoors and have the model lie down or even sit on hard rocks, you may be unable to shoot the side she is lying on for some time. because of marks.
I usually bring a towel or an extra shirt for the model to sit on during breaks. Generally, at first, they’ll refuse as they are tough and don’t mind.
But when I explain the marks, they usually accept the cushion, as marks are unattractive in pictures.
So, if you have several ideas you want to complete in the time available, consider whether any of them will require time to recover from, and plan accordingly.
OBS: Discord bonus material for all tiers today.
