I played a lot of football in my youth and let me tell you kicking the ball like that with another kicking it at the same time (not sure what it would be called in the US, in Germany we call it "Pressball") really frigging hurts.

Priests in Shinto did not exercise spirits, they cleansed them of the corruption and allowed them to move on. Monks from Buddhism and Christian priests are who brought in the concept of exorcising evil spirits because in Shinto, the "evil" is rather the corruption and not the spirit itself
