Good comments from Jacob Jacobsen and Gude regarding the perspectives of Saber/Rider/Archer.
A lot of the heavier ideas and character motivations in the Fate series seem to deal with the relationship between the individual and the collective, and some of that seems to crop up here. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I liked thinking of it as also a breakdown of how Saber, Rider, and Archer think about themselves in relation to their respective collectives (their 'people').
Saber = collective > individual
Archer = collective < individual
Rider = collective IS individual, or synonymous with it
That is, Rider views individuality as the highest form of service to the collective AND to self, Saber sacrifices her individuality and self for what she views as service to the collective (her 'ideals'), and Archer thinks of self-actualization and improving one's own excellence and power as the highest right and calling of the individual. Archer is completely individualistic at the cost of the 'collective', however I don't know if he thinks about the 'collective' at all, he just sees other individuals and most of them are weak and uninteresting from his viewpoint.
Again, probably reading too much into this and I don't know if I'm getting my ideas across in this short of a comment, but I thought it was an interesting thought exercise at least. Especially given some plot points and ideas that show up later in Fate Zero and in material beyond that (Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel, etc).

Three different ideological viewpoints on what it means to be a king:
Saber = king who lives FOR the people
Rider = king who stands WITH the people
Archer = king who stands ABOVE the people
Also it was cut out in this version but Kirei was ordered by Tokiomi to send all the assassins to gauge the full extent of Riders power (since it was unknown to them) and try to kill him even if it meant sacrificing all of them

This is honestly my favorite episode from s1. One of my favorite things about Fate, is the battle of ideals. I felt bad for Saber, but I think Rider has some good points.

Yah Riders point went over my head the first time I watched this tbh.
Saber lived her life in service of her people. Rider was saying that no one wants to live like that, they'd rather let someone else do all the hard work. So when Saber died, no one was there to pick up the pieces because no one felt like they could ever live up to her example.
Riders saying by doing whatever you want, it inspires other people to reach their full potential, in the hope that theyll get to live like him someday.

Thats why Fate Zero writing is GENIUS and kinda separates it from its source. The CLASH of ideas and concepts everywhere is amazing. So many character, so many takes on concepts. BTW, gotta love my man here appreciating music composer KAJIURA GODDESS score in every ep. Especially here during Riderβs charge, the main theme takes a royal and battle shift with different key and the opera vocals sooo good ππ» ππ»
