Ooof. Dublin got really hammered with the “new economy”. Is there any political movement there focused on rent stabilisation or affordable housing or is it just all gas no brakes?

Interesting stuff, Dan. I’ve always felt a thread of sadness/frustration in this song, perhaps (I’m realising now) because when you released it I wasn’t long back from post-grad travels - I wasn’t the same no more, but everything in my hometown sure felt the Same. The Ubisoft stuff reminds me so much of Dublin & the huge soulless offices of Google, Facebook etc. Lisa O’Neill’s Homeless in the Thousands comes to mind. Thanks for sharing these vids x

Whoa I’ve been wondering what my coconspirator had meant in our recording notes “sidechain the bass” and I hadn’t bothered to look it up yet *^_^*

Dan, ever since you started these videos, it’s brought new life to your music in my world. Things I never noticed or knew about, I go back and check out details you shared and when I hear it, it’s like finding a gem! Beyond this, I truly enjoy all the personal reflections. All this time, I have loved your music, your voice… you as an artist and now I feel like I get to know more about Dan Boeckner and he’s such a F-ing great guy ❤️

Dan!!! This is fucking awesome dude. Like a dream series… not only reflecting on the overall time in your life and GEAR, but to go track by track is unreal. These are songs that I’m sure all of us on the Discord have deep connections and love for, and having created our own personal meanings to, but to learn more about your inspiration is such a gift, so thanks again. On that note, while I sees these songs as timeless anthems, you did get me thinking about the creative process, and how as the artist, besides performing them on stage, you probably don’t often seriously LISTEN to your own music the way a fan would, and when you do, you can potentially become hypercritical, especially if you see them tied to era or genre defining trends (ie side-chaining), but at least to me, these songs are timeless, and not derivative and just sound like you. This is a great thing. You have a sound. Your reflective/melancholy lyrics are a huge part of it, and you can’t escape it, which is what most artists only dream of achieving. Lastly, as someone who has lived and struggled through the great flattening of Seattle, I knew there was a reason why this song has always resonated and been part of the regular rotation. Anyway- thanks again, can’t wait until Damage. 🤙❤️

I gotta hand it to you Dan, you are delivering premium content. Bravo. I could listen to you talk about pretty much anything, but a song by song elaboration is such a treat.
