A few months ago I spent a week in Ditchfield UK producing a friends album. We stayed in an ancient blacksmiths cottage, surrounded by layers and layers of Historical Sediment. Old beams, the stone garden wall, a sainsburys bag, bookshelves with faded penguin paperbacks...like a geological cocoon of Britishness. If i'm being honest, this was the first time I've really enjoyed being in the UK. The weather was predictably crappy, damp, cold but...it didn't seem to bother me as much as it usuall...

Hello hello from the frozen shore of Lake Eerie in the pre-holiday deep freeze. It's soup day. I'm making soup. Today it's Borscht. The yard is blanketed w snow and three different species of squirrel are waging a constant, baffling war for territory or maybe just digging up each others food stashes, squeaking and tearing across the powerlines and fences. None of my business really! I'm staying out of it.
A few days ago I played a show w the wonderful folks in The Format in Minneapolis...

I cracked the code on having a nice time in Britain. The trick is simple: stay in a small town in the countryside, spend some time outside and have a fire every night. Easy. Also helps if you're making a great record with your friends. Bonus if one of your friends makes delicious Kurdish food.
I've got a wintery soundscape diary cooking up to share with everyone in the next few days and a handful of demos on the go.
At Mount Zoomer video series will start in December. Let me kno...

Here it is gang, the last song on the album, last notes the band would record. Discussed: breakin up, the limits of touring as a sustainable lifestyle, NOISE, regrets/no regrets.
At the end I get into some personal news and where I want to take this next. I'd like to finish the series with an AMA so ASK QUESTIONS IN THE COMMENTS.
Moving forward I'd like to do this with another album: Plague Park OR At Mount Zoomer...the choice is yours.
Hope everyone is doing good rolling ...

Years of Lard, Years of Lead Paint, BurgerReich, Years of Whatever continue apace. As I write this there are two confirmed ex-Iraq war vet shootings in the space of 24 hours. One in North Carolina by a man who was diagnosed w schizophrenia after being shot in the head in Iraq during a "friendly fire incident". He spent the last decade suing the VA and self publishing a book that described how he was being hunted by "LGBT white supremacists". How his country had abandoned him. The second shoot...

The most "ROCK" song on the album, an ode to doing it low cost. Discussed: thee Olde Jamme Space, rocking, FM drum crunch, the endless workflow labyrinth of DAWs , the limits of the human voice and the 4 track tape machine.
Music: 4 hour NES 8-bit Mix
Hope everyone is good. I'm headed to Palm Springs for ONE day and then I'll be back rounding up the album series with No Feelings and a few bonus videos.

In between writing songs I've been working a lot on NOISE and SOUND COLLAGE for soundtracks lately. It's been nice to flip from wailing on the guitar and howling to quieter, meditative work. I've been recording the sounds of my new neighborhood, walking around looking - i'm sure - like a maniac trying capture the late summer ambience here by the Lake. Listening to these "non musical" sounds and then trying to translate them back into music feels like the creative equivalent of strength traini...

The latest episode of our ongoing series on Sound Kapital. Discussed: ghost cities, EBM basslines, the 909, media bias, factory work, alternate futures. There's some light barking due to the arrival of the hated mailman. I mention starting a series of shorter episodes covering our contemporary Years of Lead situation. Lmk if anyone would enjoy this....

If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I've been at the Lake. A Great Lake. Lake Michigan. 10/10 Lake, I had no idea you could get an Ocean Experience this far inland. Did I get horribly sunburnt? Yes. Did I see a mushroom colony the size of a medicine ball? Yes. Anyway! I'm back, I'll have the What About Us episode up tomorrow and a few more things before we roll into September. Hope everyone is good, XO DB

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm back up and running with a new almost fully operational studio. Cleveland...what can I say? What a town. Been doing a lot of yardwork and grilling. Should have another one of these up soon and some new music as well.

Part 4 of the ongoing series. The first bit covers how we wrote and recorded the song, the second (LONG) part goes into American Force Projection, imperialism, "red tagging" and How To Wreck A Country With One Simple Trick. I think this is the most thematically heavy episode of the series. Also: I am interrupted by a lawnmower. I promise they wont be all this Serious.
ALSO: I've got TWO guests lined up for some bonus episodes. Filmmaker Scott Coffey, who designed the cover and shot vide...

Yesterday was the 15th anniversary of Wolf Parade's EXPO 86. Maria C (who some of you know), encouraged me to do a few videos breaking down a handful of songs on the album. I've been gunshy about front facing video on socials. Maybe from podcasting for 5 years? Maybe from associating that format with psychos bellowing at their cameras as they sit in a Tim Hortons parking lot in Peterborough. Maybe because I hate TikTok? Well, I was wrong. I love to do it. It's fun. People seem to enjoy watchi...

Hello friends! Here's an inside look on some writing I've been doing for the next solo album. It seems like I'm making a spooky ROCK album. I don't really plan these things, they just sort of happen and the universe is bending me towards BASS DRUMS GUITAR. I've been experimenting with a bunch of different tunings and really enjoying just shredding.
The mighty Sam Brown is on drums here, all recorded in the basement as God intended.
Some personal notes:

Here's a rough mix of a song I recorded with Sam in advance of the upcoming Irish tour. I love this song...one of my favorite contemporary "folk" tunes...originally written and recorded by Lisa O'Neil back in 2018...lyrics hit even harder here in 2025. More in the next week...have been writing and recording a lot since I got back from the Wolf Parade tour. AND! As always...anyone who would like to come to any of these dates, hit me up in DMs. It's going to be an interesting tour...I'll be p...
