World Sphere Book 1, 2 and 3

I spent this afternoon compiling chapters for easier access and cleaning up my patreon a bit. Attached are Books 1, 2, and 3 of this series, all of which are copyrighted and not for distribution. Editing for Book 2 will start in a month, but prior to that, I posted Word documents, and some people had trouble accessing a few of the files. When I begin editing, I will post the chapters individually. I am not deleting any chapters already posted in that way, but you will no longer be able to access them in the "Collections" for Books 2 and 3 until their edits are completed. Book 1 will remain accessible.

archmage," the prefix "arch-" comes from the Greek word arkhos and means chief, principal, or supreme. Therefore, an archmage is considered the head, leader, or foremost of all other mages in a particular group or domain. The term denotes a higher order of magical power and status, similar to how an archbishop is the chief bishop. Examples of other things like this are Archbishop, Archangel, and Monarch. High-mage just bugs me

Keven Leigh

So from what I understand on how the sphere ranks mages it goes apprentice mage, mage, archmage, then High-mage? The Arch in Archmage means peak.

I finished Volume 2, and yeah—it was a fun read. BUT. The same problems I spotted in SL are only present here, they're even more pronounced. So, I don’t think I’ll be continuing further. I’d need to work harder than I really want to just to make myself sound polite, so instead—just picture me being loud, frustrated, but ultimately hopeful as I say this. 1. Way too much telling, not enough showing. I don’t want a character’s personality told to me. I want it shown—through mannerisms, habits, how they move, how they react. Let me see them in motion, not read their résumé. 2. Whiplash pacing. Book 1: MC gets mugged and nearly dies. Great! Stakes! Grit! Then… boom. A dungeon ecology lecture after he wakes up. And not even a relevant one. No attempt to retrieve the money? No satisfying revenge arc? I felt more robbed than the MC. 3. POV chapters backtrack way too far. We don’t need to flash all the way back to a side character’s birth just because we’ve entered their POV. That’s what you, the author, need to know—not what we need to sit through in the middle of rising tension. It kills pacing like slamming the brakes mid-sprint. 4. The romance and social scenes. 90% of the respect I lost for the MC came during private moments with female characters. The cast, the setups, even the behavior—it's straight out of a harem novel, with a whole pack of girls throwing themselves at MC. But it doesn’t go anywhere. There’s no reason for him to entertain it, and no payoff. Also, please don’t drop explicit details about a love interest’s sexual past unless you’re going somewhere meaningful with it. Just hint at what needs hinting, if it REALLY does. A very successful female harem novelist I'm on friendly terms made that mistake and lost a chunk of her audience over it. I could go on, but these are the ones that stuck out first. I'm not calling this novel bad—or unreadable. If anything, the fact I read two volumes says a lot, considering how little free time I have. That is high praise. I just felt I owed you something for the time and effort you clearly put in. This may not be a warm-and-fuzzy pat on the back, but it’s honest, and it’s meant to help. I want to see more of you, not less—and I want you to become the best damn wordmancer you can be.

Listening to book 1 atm and I’m hooked 😂. I really like the concept of the world and sky ships 🤩…. I am a sucker for sky ships 🫠… thanks for the work you put in this.

it is being edited in the Book 2 Collection

Erick Thiemke

whats up with the age of the mc in this book??? book 1 starts off saying he is 15 and will be 16 soon but in book 2 it changes to 13????

Raymond Howard

it is the 9th prime number. (i thought is was the 10th but 1 is no longer considered a pime number). It is my take on the universe of magic. i use prime numbers in my writing a lot with 23 being a threshold point for power

Erick Thiemke

Cool

brig head the hug

yes...by about 2 years. In book 2 the length of a Sphere year is longer, so you actually have to add two years

Erick Thiemke

Just started book 2, did storme and Gareth get aged up in the book 1 edit

brig head the hug

So what is the obsession with the number 23, it's getting to be extremely off putting

Tooshar

done

Erick Thiemke

gives me twenty minutes. the margins are set for print format but i can change them and generate a new pdf. i will post here when it is done

Erick Thiemke

Would it be possible to get versions of the story that don’t have every other page slightly offset to the left and right. It’s very annoying and takes away from the reading experience.

I subbed here for a soldiers life but world sphere is my new favorite series

BloodStorm

Chapter 70: Secret Sauce Key: [grammar error → correction] {style/clarity suggestion → alternative phrasing} When we landed, Mia and the twins rushed back to the barracks. {I guessed they were going to tell everyone → They were probably eager to share everything} about the warehouse and their time in Aegis City. It was the second-largest city in all of Skyholme, although the capital was sometimes split into lower and upper cities when referenced. Either of those partial cities would still have larger populations than Aegis City. The recent incursion by the Sadians had done a fair amount of damage and caused a fair amount of death in the larger cities that were the focus of the attack. {fair amount → significant} The death and destruction had allowed me to purchase the warehouse. I found Gareth in our room studying his dungeon books. He tried to tell me about the training with [delve team → the delve team], but I professed I needed to work on the lesser restoration spell. I had a week to learn it, and I was getting close. [This was the 11th spell that I was imprinting → It was the eleventh spell I was imprinting.] I was getting a good feel for the process and knew when I was getting close. [I looked at my list of what spells I wanted to level → I reviewed the list of spells I wanted to level.] Most of my aether was being used to create gold and platinum coins. {It seemed I was quite literally the goose that laid the golden eggs → I really was the goose laying golden eggs.} Aether shield would hit level 13 on its own due to training at Twin Rocks. Cleanliness was something that I could probably get to level by the end of the week to get another evolution. Privacy as well could be leveled just with my current practice. I dropped my privacy screen. [“Hey Gareth, can you let me train → “Hey, Gareth, would you mind if I trained] with weapon masters by myself tomorrow night? I want to get feedback on my new sword. With some angst in my voice, [“No, you can not have my sword!” → “No, you cannot have my sword!”] “Really!” he exclaimed, and I nodded. He was so excited he just handed me the sword and left the room without saying anything else. {He probably had to go burn off some energy…or maybe he was going to run out to the farm and tell everyone → He was probably off to burn some energy or spread the news at the farm.} That was probably what Gareth would do. I placed the blade back in my space and added even more enchanting material I needed to my purchase list for Instructor Aethon. Selina was gone for the day, so I was [left teaching the spellcraft class for her → left to teach her spellcraft class]. I assumed she was working with Lana and Remy out at the farm. [He would personally tutor me with the new weapon every night → He personally trained me on the new weapon each night.] {At first, I was worried, but it quickly became evident he was here to instruct and not beat me senselessly → I worried at first, but it became clear he was focused on teaching—not beating me senseless.} On the fourth day, I advanced my cleanliness spell to level 17. I had been cleaning everything in sight to get this spell leveled. [I chose to invade a person’s aura → I gained the ability to penetrate another person’s aura.] I could now clean another person’s clothes…at least on the surface. I couldn’t eliminate the smell or dry clothes on a person’s body. I needed one more evolution for that. Then one final evolution to increase my range, and I would be able to use my cleanliness spell on a person’s body like I was doing it on myself. So those were my two evolution plans for levels 19 and 23. The Gaskills practically [corned me → cornered me] and hugged me one at a time. Mera and Fera looked on at the spectacle, smiling. Mera hadn’t made another move since the skyship kiss, so I guessed that was just a thank-you for bringing them to Aegis City. [With over 100 people drinking heavily → With more than a hundred people drinking heavily], I got the spell up to level four before the night’s end. Some people I cured of intoxication still acted drunk, which made me laugh. This allowed the [castor → caster] to combat higher-tier poisons as the spell couldn’t neutralize them. You just either had to hope the poison had a half-life or someone with a stronger spell could reach the patient. A few people noticed the lack of drunk people and blamed the tavern owner who supplied the barrels of [delivering water down ale → watered-down ale]. No fights broke out, just some very lively discussions from my antics. I was surprised when Mia joined us; she smiled, and during the trip, she began to talk about who she decided to ask to join my building guards. [I didn’t bring up her entrance into my room last night → I chose not to bring up her sneaking into my room the night before.] “You are to take everyone here to a reasonable tailor. I want everyone in the same black pants and black long-sleeve button-up tops. The buttons are to be shiny steel buttons. [You are to have everyone sized and get everyone five pairs of pants and five tops each → Get everyone measured and purchase five pairs of pants and five tops for each person.]” I asked where the eighth cook was, and someone said he had left to go home and sleep off a hangover. [He was fired on the spot → I fired him on the spot.] Best not to show too much leniency with your staff this early. I asked the Miaden guards to carry up a few crates of copper to the roof for me, and they looked at me like I had two heads. {Yep, definitely needed new guards → Yet another reason I needed to replace the guards.} One person tried to [find my purse → pick my pocket], but all my coins were in my dimensional storage, so all he got was a purse with fifty steel coins, [which was half a copper → worth only half a copper.] I entered the hall and found my entire team anxious but ready to go. Surprisingly, Gareth looked the most nervous of the bunch. Gimble was calm and asked, “So we can only take six in—who am I leading?”

Chapter 69: A Day with the Girls Key: [grammar error → correction] {style/clarity suggestion → alternative phrasing} Fera and Mera were already up and waiting when I knocked. They were dressed in their best clothes. Fera asked excitedly, “Should we get breakfast here or in the capital?” “We can get it in [the Aegis City → Aegis City]. We have to go get Mia from her room,” I said, turning—but I caught the twins frowning at Mia’s name. Knocking on Mia’s door and announcing myself, she answered with a big smile[,] [which quickly fell on seeing → that quickly fell when she saw] the twins behind me. They all seemed to {buy my line of bullshit → accept my excuse} and were happier to be in each other’s company. On the flight, the three women formed a circle to talk amongst themselves and [gratefully sat alone → gratefully left me alone]. The meal was forgettable, but my company was all questions about the restaurant. They were confused when I told them we had already walked past it. [Confusion rained → Confusion reigned] as we had not left the warehouse district. Tatem put down his brushes. “I think I will finish these two soon, so that would be 15 completed. I have sketched out the next two. There is another completed panel waiting for [clear coating over there. → a clear coat over there.”] She pointed to a piece of paper on top of her work folders. “I have lined up thirty-seven interviews for you starting at noon today.” {lined up → scheduled} [Then I have errands to run. I have some friends downstairs who will interview the waitstaff for me. ” → Then I have errands to run. I have some friends downstairs who will interview the waitstaff for me.”] I adjusted the head cook’s wage down to [75 silver. → 75 silvers.] {Keeping those twenty aether stones charged would be a full-time job, though. → But maintaining the charge on twenty aether stones would be a full-time job.} I planned my work to be good but not exceptional. I was also just going to use tier 3 aether crystals to power the devices. They were large enough to only need recharging once a week [for our needs. → , which suited our needs.] They all thought it was just one opening. I just needed cooks who were open, willing to learn, and had good attention to detail. {just → [remove both instances]} Everyone’s pay would start immediately, and they could come in and help set up the furniture in the [bakery/ café → bakery/café] and the restaurant until we officially opened. “No need. I am going to talk with my dungeon team leader. ” → [“No need. I am going to talk with my dungeon team leader.”] “You probably don’t know, but most of his debt was penalties assessed by his dive team for failures. ” → [“You probably don’t know, but most of his debt was from penalties assessed by his dive team for failures.”] “Yes,” I produced the coin for Gimble. {I produced the coin → I handed Gimble the coin} I had been wearing Gareth’s old clothes, with my frame filling out so quickly. {Combine this with the next sentence for flow → Though my frame had quickly filled out, Gareth’s old clothes still fit well enough, and my cleanliness spell made them bearable.} She pulled a sheet to herself. “We have hired seven dishwashers, two bartenders, and seven servers! ” → [“We’ve hired seven dishwashers, two bartenders, and seven servers!”] Mera defended the group’s extra hiring, “She looked so miserable. She was too young to be a server and is taking care of her younger brother, who is sick. You will like her[,] [Storme → Storme;] she will work really hard.” The only extra benefit they will receive is one meal from the menu during their shift. ” → [during their shift.”] The roof is going to be covered in gardens.” Isla was trailing us even though I had not invited her, “The stone mage is on the roof right now making raised beds and setting up the windscreens. ” → [Isla, trailing us despite not being invited, said, “The stone mage is on the roof right now making raised beds and setting up the windscreens.”] The twins were grinning at the announcement. [The twins liked everybody as long as you were not competing with them. → They liked everyone, as long as you weren’t competing with them.] “I was thinking of you and nine others. Three shifts of three. Pay would be 25 silver a week,” I said, speaking off the cuff. [As the guard captain, you would be paid the same but get an apartment for your use as part of your compensation. → As guard captain, you’d earn the same pay, but also receive an apartment as part of your compensation.] I gave her a few large golds to start paying the new employees and told her Remy would be taking over accounting shortly. {large golds → large gold coins} Maybe it had been a mistake on my part to return the kiss, but it was enjoyable. I watched the twins talk animatedly 20 feet away for a while before returning to my own thoughts. {20 feet → a short distance}
