Inktober, Patreon/Apple and a note on art subjects

First off, happy November, especially to all the new folks! October has been tough on me; I had to cancel the last show this year, spent three weeks sick in bed and/or coughing, and Inktober / Patreontober quickly became a thing that completely grew over my head. I feel bad for just dropping it, but with new blind spots that happened two weeks ago, I need to focus on my mental health and I’m scared of obligations to push in front of me right now.🩵

Important news for Apple users, and especially for those thinking about signing up in the near future - Patreon has made a new deal with Apple that takes a HUGE cut from your support and sends it straight to Apple, so you pay considerably more than just your support to me - BUT just for new signups, from the next few months onward, AND only if you sign up through the Patreon app on an Apple device. So you can completely circumvent that by going through any browser (even on an Apple device). That‘s something to keep in mind for new signups in the future. I will put that on my landing page in a sec too.

Finally, one little thing about drawing subject matter. I just read an exit survey here on Patreon that really, really hurt. I am the first person to acknowledge how incredibly grateful I am for your support, for so many years in many cases, and I often can't believe how long literally hundreds of you have been sticking with me (years to almost a decade). Over the last two years, I have seen a lot of long-time supporters leaving too, so I understand 100% if people can't connect with what I‘m drawing at any point in time, and I also understand I am entitled to none of your support. What really, really hurts is exit notes from people that think they are entitled to their favourite art from me, and complain that I‘m no longer drawing things they like, and that treat their leaving as a sort of punishment for my oversight. I am under no obligation to draw one certain thing for anyone for the rest of my life. If interests no longer align, by all means put your money to better use, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support! But please don't act as if I purposefully disappointed you personally by drawing things that don’t interest you. I don't draw to please people, and never have, weird as that may sound. If I did, I‘d be terrible at it.
