Éowyn, and musing on the size of a cent
Added 2018-11-26 16:54:43 +0000 UTCFinally had some more time for this. And went to see Fantastic Beasts 2 yesterday. Still figuring out if I liked it, but it was a major eye-opener to realise that Eddie Redmayne plays Newt as autistic.
I had an interesting cent-related experience last week: At the counter of the drinks shop, I dug through my purse to unearth eight cents (five, two, and one, or so I thought), handed them to the man at the counter, and he squinted at what I'd thought was a two and said, "Sorry, that's an American cent."
I took it back from him in amazement (both at the fact that I'd never seen an American cent, but that he apparently had AND could tell it from a Euro-coin in an instant), and then my amazement extended to the fact that the cent was way larger than a Euro-cent.
"But that means," I told the poor man in my excitement, "that all the times an American artist posted a cent to show how tiny his image was, I needn't even have burrowed myself into all those holes in shame, because the cent is a lot larger than I thought it was!"
"Uh," he said. "Got a Euro-two?"
I did. Poor fellow. Probably still tries to figure out what on earth that woman was on about.
Lookit that huuuuge cent!
In case you were wondering, an English penny is a tad larger than a the US cent, even.

Hah, interesting! :D I had no idea they were that much larger. I watched the new Fantastic Beasts last week, too, and I'm also not entirely sure what to think of it yet ... I loved many parts, but it didn't feel like they added up to a whole lot. But I also wasn't too enthusiastic about the first one, until I watched it a second time and completely fell in love with it. :D <3 So I think I want to give Crimes of Grindlewald another chance, too. Eddie Redmayne confirming that he plays Newt as autistic made me so, so happy. <3 (I'm an Aspie my self, so seeing how obviously autistic Newt is and that it was intentional (!), too, is such a gift) I love Newt and all the characters a lot - you can really tell that it's JKR herself behind the scripts and there is just so much heart and charm in these movies, that I find it very easy to forgive them their faults. :) The painting is looking amazing, by the way! The colours are so beautiful and there is so much light ... <3
