I've discovered the landscape art of David Bellamy, and some techniques here were strongly inspired by his soft washes. Looks more like lavender now than thistle, but I'm going to bring the prickly little buggers out again in some places near the bottom.

That is the trick, actually - if the first washes aren't solid, nothing you will do afterwards will save your piece. I started this one twice - the background ridge turned out really green and clashed painfully with the purple. Green and purple, for me, is an utter no-go in watercolour.

2018-07-14 18:14:46 +0000 UTCIt's from Molotow! They come as markers, and like in paint markers, you pump them until the masking fluid flows from the tip. I then remove the tip and clean it under the tap, so it doesn't clog!
