Varda finished

Here she is! I finished her last night already, but didn't get round to scanning and flattening until today.

Varda. Watercolour and gouache on Canson Aquarelle cold-pressed paper, ca. 21x15 cm.

Flattening is another thing I've recently learned - it's dead easy to get a warped (non-stretched) watercolour painting to lie absolutely flat again, even flatter than it comes from a stretcher: I spray the back with water, out it between two heavy watercolour paper pads with a piece of kitchen roll on the back, and put my schoolbag on it. An hour, and it's dry and flat, and the water doesn't harm the front!

Here's the piece without the mat (and without colour distortion; the light today is impossible for photographs).

You flattening technique is exactly what I needed to hear. I've got a couple of watercolor paintings that even with being stretched just do not want to lie flat, and it's been very difficult to get a good scan. I'll try your method!

She is so beautiful, I love her face. And the hair with stars makes it feel quite magical.

Beautiful. The stars make the piece magical but all of it: her hair, her eyes, the colors. Stunning!!
