Ecthelion battles Gothmog

It was actually something I haven't done in ages, unless in a sketchbook: Just sat down, drew and painted on the same sheet, without much ref (save some 15th century armour) and without overthinking. It's something I had almost unlearned, and it's good to do it again.
Ecthelion battles Gothmog. Watercolour on Bockingford paper (I think), roughly 21x15 cm.
When I sat down to draw, I was almost ready to leave out Ecthelion's helm, as I've done everytime I've drawn him, because I could never imagine his spiked helm as anything but an overgrown Pickelhaube! But then I decided to try out this design, and lo, it looked completely unembarrassing.
I had my phone on hand for wip shots, of course (as Sherlock Holmes was running on it):

Ecthelions Rüstung erinnert mich an eine Darstellung von da Fabriano, ich weiß nur gerade nicht, wo ich sie verorten soll. (Wird mir schon wieder einfallen.) Sehr lebendig. Gefällt mir wirklich gut.
