Before the storm - sketch

Okay, after sending my address out to 105 people instead of one, and babbling away in German to unsuspecting Canadians, I'll take the chance and post some art today, in the hope nothing weirder will happen!

This will be another commission for Paul (remember his "Jenny Greenmere"?). Here she is standing on the field of Camlann with Arthur and his knights (one of them right now, anyway. For the guys on the horses, credit goes to the wonderful reenactors of Timetrotter - there was a huge reenactment event last month in Xanten. We fled after two hours, because of torrential rain and thunderstorms, but not before I'd taken 500 photos of late Roman cavalry!

Thanks for the context Paul!

Here's the text in my tale (a 19th century vampire novel - somehow it all makes sense in context (I hope!)) that goes with this picture: "Jenny bowed her head again. For a moment, the rough clang of blade on blade filled her ears. She remembered that noise, and the cry of the dying, atop a high hill beneath a scorching sun. Black armor and a bloody blade. And the battle. Such a battle, one worthy of the world’s ending. And hadn’t it been? The end of a realm, of a world, of a dream... Jenny retreated from her memories as best she could, reached out and took the sword. It glinted brightly in the moonlight as Jenny held it aloft. Another memory, one she could not deny, would not deny. The same blade, glinting just thus, as it was held aloft by a kingly hand atop that hill as day grew dim, the wielder crying out “To me! To me!” And those horrible voices jeering, jeering, but not drowning out the answering cries of those who remained. How many had they been? Fifty? Twenty? And most of them would fall soon. Jenny touched her throat, remembering how it had ached as she screamed herself hoarse, her black armor stained red with blood –"
