I replied back when you wrote this, but apparently Patreon ate it! Laerminuial sounds fascinating. And her advice on ring-making seems sound to me.

The backstory I made up for Laerminuial is that she's a Noldo born in Eregion fairly early in the Second Age. She ended up in Celebrimbor's circle and was one of the jewelsmiths of Ost-in-Edhil. She ended up crafting one of the lesser rings (the 'essays in the craft' Gandalf mentions early on in Fellowship), which is the subject of Jenny's first painting of her. After the small unpleasantness with Sauron and the Last Alliance, a somewhat wiser and humbler Laerminuial relocated to Rivendell and spent the next few thousand years there as one of the lore-masters. Eventually, she ended up as one of young Aragorn's tutors, as seen here. "If anybody ever tells you to make a magical ring, just say no."
