I think standard workflow for this is making a large domain but setting it to adaptive domain. This way the fluid will never reach the boundaries. Don't think custom domain shapes are a thing though

Something I've never been able to work (with liquids and gasses previously) out (which I hope you can share if it's possible or not), is if it's possible to have these kinds of things fill a custom shape rather than a cubed area... So for example, water filling a shaped jug, gasses fillinga L shaped room, or now (finally) honey filling a massive letter H!
