Interview With the Author: Dathan Auerbach

Today we talk with the author of Penpal, Dathan Auerbach, on the early days of NoSleep, the stages of ideation for Penpal and becoming a writer in real time.

Comments

I’m not kidding when I say this interview genuinely got me out of my writers block

Vene

I immediately bought Penpal and Badman as soon as I was done listening to Penpal on CreepCast! It's such a good book, and Badman was great. Super excited to read more of Dathan's work!

Amber Funk

I really wish it would get turned into a show or something

Archer21

That novel is so good. Idk why it's not more popular. It should be.

nyland nyland

same dude, just subbed and made a beeline for this one

Julian Miranda

Subscribed to the Patreon primarily because I want to watch this interview. Penpal is my favorite story on Creepcast of all time, it's genuinely insane that Footsteps is the first thing he ever wrote. Really great interview 🙏

Elle

Wendigoon: "Penpal is one of the internet horror stories." Wow what a compliment lol Good interview and Dathan is great. Very glad he's still writing. You guys shoulda asked him about reading Badman for the show.

Hank Greenburg

Bros dreamy

chase rivera

So I'm a book girly and a reel just recommended penpal for a thriller that scared the shit out of them lol it was crazy to encounter it in the wild. I stay creeping til I cast 👻

Monica R

This story lives in my mind rent free, it has stuck with me in a way that few stories have. Id love to see you guys cover correspondence although it would be super long, it's worth it.

autumn garrett

We need a Jared Robert’s interview.. that guy has some insane stories then they should also cover but my word I’d love to see what that interview would look like

Tdogg523

This is such a delight! Penpal was the story that affected me the most. He so eloquently captures the emotions and stitched-together dream logic of childhood to weave one of the most tragic stories I've ever heard. It only gets better/more painful on re-listens. I bought the paperback after the episode.

Bright Anderson

joined for the author interviews, great stuff boys

the_big_sandwich

My favorite thing about experiencing Penpal is that its scarier the second and third time than the first time around

The House

Came from the Smiling Ones video when I heard you did this interview, immediately joined! SO EXCITED

Amber

I recently moved into a house with a crawl space and still have nightmares to the first time I watched Penpal. man left a lasting impression

Jesse B.

I used this interview as an excuse to relisten to Penpal

Noah

You guys need to cover his Bad Man book too!

Collin Hall

Hunter took a 30 before this one

GoonMan

Discovery writing is the funnest way to do it. For me anyway, I get why he does it. Even I'm kept on my toes throughout lol. It can definitely be a problem though.

Brian Menard

Poison ruin shirt?

Naryan Schindler

Penpal being my personal favorite this is such a great insight to dathans personality and writing techniques while also being just a fun time great interview overall bois

Phatfrankie

yall totally gotta read badman now

chipz

I work at a library and bought Penpal for our collection but someone took it out and never returned it 😭

Hedgehog338

what a genuinely awesome dude

beak

good thing wendi clarified that he has more than 2 shelves in his house lmao

gr1zlybear

I'm so glad that y'all were able to have this interview with Dathan, he's one of my favorite writers since Penpal. Now that I have more disposable income I'm grabbing those books. Please interview more authors.

Liam Shafer

You can find it on Amazon but only paperback

Ty Claro

Jason Rose

Didn’t think I would enjoy this as much as I would. Definitely looking forward to the next one.

Aaliyah Newton

Loved this interview. Penpal is probably my favorite story yall have covered so far. I'm looking to buy a physical copy as we speak. I really enjoyed the kinda look behind the curtain with the author. I love any tidbits on their creative processes and motivations so im looking forward to more interviews!

Trey Carter

I am so glad he didn't stop with Footsteps. Penpal has been my #1 favorite horror story that I've heard from no sleep ever since. I recommend it to literally everyone I talk to, I own a copy for display and I intend on ordering another for subsequesial readings. I can not gush over it enough.

Indoctrinates

He is quite possibly the most wholesome horror author I've ever seen 😆 love you all

katie craine

Hope you're doing okay! I love this community too and I unknowingly am the most loyal Dathan Auerbach fan lol.

Hunter Steward

Just bought the physical copy, excited to re-read it! I had forgotten about scenes like the river scene until hunter brought them up. Time for a refresher on this badass story

Jake Briscoe

Thanks so much for this interview it was incredible! I finally bought the book because of it!

Phoenix Hofman

What a cool dude with an amazing natural talent. Wild that he just sat down to write it. Makes me super proud to be part of this community :)

Mars ✌️

I loved hearing from the author. It was amazing getting his insight on the story and everything it entailed. Really kind of inspires me to try writing at some point. You guys are always doing awesome! Thank you!

Elliotte Beauchene

Hell yeah, this was great

Seth Berlin

Dude, this was so good. I’m so happy this interview was able to happen. It was so much fun to listen to and I bet even more fun to be a part of

Mocha

I just ordered the bear trap shirt thru the recently ordered pop up🤣🥲

Ali Grace

No hoodies? I'm freezin over here guys. D:

Nicole☆Faust

Honestly y'all I think it's a little distasteful that the reddit mods are removing any mention of the merch launch rn :// Obviously there's been a bit of a whoopsie with the password release but wiping any thread where ppl are trying to figure out what's happening feels pretty wack

Mocha

I ordered 1 of everything

DillanDaMeatManJuggalo

i also did this, got the bear trap shirt 🙏🏻

Abi ophelia

somebody like this comment when they find the password 😭

Carlyn Woods

Putting in every password I can think of so I can get in and buy the bear trap shirt individually 🤞

Cool guy cool stories

DiggingTrapHoles

Had to re listen to Penpal again after this interview! Such an amazing read, one of most memorable stories ever created. Thank you, Dathan for sharing your amazing talent with us through this story and we cannot wait until your next release!

Aly_Mariposa

This story is phenomenal. I could listen to it/read it a million times over & it never gets old. It’s so great getting to hear his writing experience from him.

Haley

Penpal is one of the best horror stories I’ve ever read it’s so encouraging and fun the hear the author talk about his work! Would love to see more of these interviews of the patreon!

Max Towner

Absolute banger video, I hope to hear more from him and his future projects. I’d also love for more authors to come on here and share their stories as well. Cheers!

Pertinax

Can you let us get the merch now since we’re more special than everyone else who didn’t subscribe on here 😛😛

Ali Grace

The fact that he wrote penpal in a week blows my mind, it is still the scariest thing, in my opinion, that y’all have read on the podcast.

Harper Pearce

I want another Wendigoon stream so bad. I miss his Gmod livestreams. Or when he’d play COD Zombies.

Tommy Taffy

Ive actually watched mother horse eyes in on sitting 😅

Angel's_Purge

This was so awesome, penpal is one of my favorite books and favorite stories in general, hearing his thought process and how much he pulled from his child is so cool and thank you so much for writing penpal! I can't wait to see the next author interview.

Jonah robbins

Does anyone know if Isaiah or Hunter have PO Boxes for fan mail? I customized something for each of them and I’d like to send it

Savannah Rayfield

This was fantastic, I loved not on lit hearing from Dathan himself but also getting to hear the various questions from Hunter and Isaiah, love this. Money well spent 🖤

Jason

Hating for hates sake in the big 25

John Le Van

I'd put this onto youdtube

It sucks

SilentDani

Notice how they did talk much about badman? Cause its trash

SilentDani

chapter one of penpal was one of the first nosleep stories i read. by then, the book was already out and i immediately bought it and finished it within a night. i still think it would make an amazing mini-series.

Kellye Yates

Ive seen alot of people interview hunter, but my first time seeing him conduct an interview and its amazing how well he leads and takes charge with the questions very well done, very excited for more

baphel

This is gold

Day 18 of asking wendigoon to draw me with a cookie. Will for sure be rewatching pen pal. Hello. Dear diary. Day one. Hello me? My therapist wants me to keep a journal to keep track of my day. Basically a diary, but he insisted it was a “personal journal to show my journey.” So here it is. I guess. I never really write about myself, but today was pretty normal. Had to go back to school today. The teachers were extra carful with me, like I was gonna fall apart at any moment. Some people even asked if I was okay. Of course I’m not, but I pretended I was, not to make things awkward. My parents haven’t been much better either, but at least they’re trying. Mom has been acting like everything is normal, but I can tell shes is always watching me. While my dad keeps giving me surprise gifts. Cosmo still treats me the same which is nice. However, things have gotten weird , since I got back. I woke up a couple weeks ago, after feeling the my bed vibrate. My room is right above the front door of the house. So when any one enters, it causes my whole room to shake a little. Peaking out my window I saw my dad leaving. It was around 5am. He was carrying a small plain package with him. This usually isn’t that weird. He sometimes goes to work early, but he’s been doing this consistently for the past 2 weeks. Every single morning, and always the same package. I’ve started to realize he’s been wearing the same clothes too, every single day. A couple days after I first saw him leave, he started to come home later. Now it’s to the point where I barely see him. Leaving before I’m awake, and coming home after I’m already asleep. But he still gives me presents. Every morning, outside my door there’s a little present. This morning it was a flower Lego set. I hope I can talk to him soon. Besides for that everthing has been good.

Kyle

I am SO mad at Isaiah How did you neglect to mention that Poe is Mark Z. Danielewskis sister and her album “Haunted” that I grew up listening to coincides with “House of Leaves”?!!?! I’m reading this book bc of how much you reference it. I’m reading it today and I get to the part where he takes a ride with Kyrie on mulholland drive and as I’m reading this part I’m having flashbacks to my youth. After two seconds of research I found out about Poe and this album I haven’t heard in like 20 years. Mind BLOWN 🤯

Mamabear 0824

Love this! Going to rewatch the Pen Pal ep now!

Duke Marine

This is inspiring me to write the stories I've wanted to!! Cause who can tell me what the fazmos want??

Disco Panda

Badman has to be read, it’s so good

UnculturedPigeon

Beef

Beef

This was AMAZING! More interviews please, really really enjoyed seeing this kind of content from you guys!! Love it!

Cae_C

Dathan just sitting there for the glaze train

Dimitris Kyprianou

I was excited for this interview but never expected to hear about Dathan's creative process. It takes me about 6 to 8 weeks to write single part stories for r/nosleep. The fact he wrote Pen Pal in about the same amount of time, with only 1 week to write each part is incredible.

DVS1

god i fucking love this dudes work. have physical copies of penpal and bad man. made me start reading again. super awesome to hear from him like this!

roroi

Currently rewatching Penpal and this is by far one of my favorite episodes ordering the book now

Carlos B

Omg such a good interview. Author seems so sweet! I HAVE to buy a copy and read it for Fall. 100% rewatching the episode too lol

Chelsey

Knocked it out of the park with this interview guys! Everything went so smoothly and the chemistry of you guys and Dathan was so wholesome and fun. Definitely worth the wait.

Rhiannon

PenPal is one of my favorite stories. So glad to get to see this interview.

JimPlatinum

this is so great guys, such a fun piece of content. Dathan seems awesome, so cool to hear about his writing process

zena wood

left right game author interview would be awesome

CherryPieBomb

Yall should interview the author for Tales from the gas station, I read the whole series, I need to know what this man was on 😂

Karma Super

When they announced this interview I binged all of "Bad Man" on audible, highly recommend anyone who enjoyed Penpal to give it a read/listen

Jakob Spieth

Ian Fields

Amazing interview! I’d love to hear more with other authors

Tech9902

This was dope, please do more of these

BearBeat22

I read penpal like a year prior to the boys reading it and you guys managed to put how I felt reading it into words perfectly. Hands down the best story you’ve read on the channel and now you have an interview with THE AUTHOR holy wow i am fangirling

Catsby Nimble

Dathan, if you’re reading this, I still have one of your signed copies of PenPal from the Kickstarter you did, even though I lent it to multiple people for them to read over the years. Footsteps through Friends is still my favorite series of NoSleep posts I ever read during my freshman year of college. To hear that it was your first time really trying to write a story is crazy impressive! Good times, and really awesome to see my worlds collide this way. Thanks to Hunter and Isaiah for making this happen!

Marshall Klein

AHHHH my fav author omgggg

Catsby Nimble

This interview really does earnestly feel like 3 fans of each other all just so excited to spend time together and talk about the things they’re passionate about. I love this

Caldwell Fitzgerald

Well that was awesome. Thank you for doing this, guys!

Rodney Wilder

Me likey! Yummers for my tummers!

Ian Bayne

Penpal is still my favorite story you guys have read to this day and i think im gonna listen again after i finish watching this… its just so good man whew

Fishbone.Hotline

Penpal still emotionally impacts me to this day. it was so immersive and visceral and the conclusion was incredibly devastating in the best way for a horror tale. it’s rare to find stories that hit sooo hard !! 11/10

Luna Spook

You guys show alot of love for stories in ways most people don't, appreciation is a lost art in many ways.

huh?

This was so wonderful to listen to and I am so glad this show exists. I seriously love you guys so much. Listening since the original Ted the caver and I have loved every minute of it. Well at least most of the time. Creepcast fucking rules.

Shy Nep

isaiah said that as i just got done being buried alive with a pedophile. thanks for nothing. unsubscribed

Bee

I really like this idea bru

chase rivera

This was EXCELLENT. Dathan is super super cool. He would make an excellent guest reader on a normal creepcast episode.

Linc Stephens

this was so much fun :) i loved penpal and bad man (i audibly went "NOOO" towards the end). seeing y'all nerd out over the creative process gave me sooo much inspiration. such a joy to see y'all excited. also to know dathan has watched even mother horse eyes give me so much joy!!

Ashley Hablitz

Loved the video would love to see more like this

Jacob DeSchepper

I loaned Penpal to a friend as well

Cameron Baker

Very funny that wendis take away on reading comprehension from bloodridge was that the protag was a girl, and not that he thought a dead body was alive and how it tainted the entire read

Crabbus

Penpal made me sob. I mean face in my hands ugly crying. Anything that can make me feel that much emotion is instantly a favorite. Beautifully written. I think about it often.

JustFullofBeans

Please read “the white people in other weird stories” by Arthur Machen

Overgrown_Vineyards

Awesome video!!!! This was great!!! Hope you guys are able to coordinate more interviews with more authors!!!

Tay

Would love to see more of these!

Tristian

“Limitation breeds creativity” is a crazy quote

edwin martinez

Love this idea of bringing in authors. Even if they just read their own story, I’d be stoked 👏👏

Chiggadut

I think “think” is his most favorable word

TheSalvationArmy

this was amazing, love this author excited for the new book!

Andres Torres

This was great, Dathan seems like such a genuinely awesome guy. I'd love to see more author interviews!

IanForth

Loved this would support this man in any endeavors and I will be purchasing bad man

Hail Cesar

Same!! The fact that this is his first writing is INSANE

LB Blubber

Love it

Marcus Doyle

There's an author named Sam Rebelein who made a book of short stories called "The poorly made" and I think you guys should check it out. Very fun

Corey Leab

Read this and just thought "wow this guy is doing the most" then I saw the name. Keep doing this bit. Never stop.

Prag

Dathan does not worry himself with lung diseases or cancer

not

Yeah I definitely want to pick up Bad Man as well, I heard a bit about it before and now I am definitely sold on it

not

This was a fantastic interview that I love tuning into, I will definitely have to pick up Bad Man and this new book he is working on!

not

This kicks ass. Been waiting for his new book for so long. Hopefully the book is sooner rather than later!

Jordanharris

Would be a cool promo for Dathan when the third book is close to release if y'all released a short bonus episode reading the first chapter or two.

Noah

Three cool guys being cool. Really coo! Can't wait for upcoming stuff from Dathan.

One of these days I will have the constitution to do it.

Im buying the pen pal book because of this interview! Protect this man at all costs!

Frieza

The fact that some of this were lived experiences make it so much creepier

black dawn

Andrew Guerra

Trotter Clark

amazing to discover he decided as he was writing. That just shows his incredible talent

Holly Papp

Definitely a highlight of the patreon episodes so far, id love to see more author interviews! Every episode of creepcast i watch the more writing motivation i get, and this was no exception

JerryDelTaco

This was awesome! Great to see what he thinks about his own story. I look forward to more of these.

Nick

As an aspiring horror writer, I really cannot thank you guys enough for this episode.

John Eisele

May you guys please interview the author of Borasca friends 🫶

Paige

i think it's so interesting he got so into the role play aspect of no sleep! such a awesome interview can't wait to see more of this content

Seb

This was fantastic. Absolutely love the goofs and gafs of the boys but seeing the more serious discussions and diving into the innards of a fantastic work like pen pals was the best. Please interview more authors! ps. start a book recommendation list from hunter and isaiah because i’ve never been a reader but want to get into horror books. starting house of leaves now god help me.

Keagan Fowler

Incredible interview, cant wait to listen to more

tacobellknight

That was awesome!

Alex Cooney

I started listening to Bad Man today and it reminds me of one of Wendi’s videos where he says something along the lines of “the only reason the gov gets away with anything is because the only people that challenge them are crazy” except in this case it’s a supermarket lol. Good & quality read so far, would love to see you guys cover it

The Shareholders

Also great post glad it felt genuine and not to official.

Nopey

Fantastic!

Meganladon

I finished it a couple weeks back, another banger from Dathan

Chancellor Robinson

Next week: ARI ASTER???!!

Johnny Hammerstyx

Such a good palate cleanser after yesterday’s ep! Cool interview guys!

TrogdorTheMan

Imagine the first thing you write being 'Footsteps'. That's an insanely good start. One of the high notes of the story and functions so well by itself.

Inbathroomatwork

Loved this interview!! Thank you so much guys!!

Vic

Love the interview videos immediately so fun to get to hear a persons process on how they write and what inspires them a great first pick for a guest to was so much fun. I hope they interview Oda next

Kingofgam305

That was a great watch. Dathan seems like a good guy. PenPal is still my fav episode of Creepcast.

Breybrey

Y not read bad man on creepcast

john shibaジョン志波

Dylan Mares

This was an incredible interview! I hope this can be done more often, I love hearing from the authors!

Taryn Brazeau

This was so entertaining this is the kinda Patreon content I think fits.ck walker next?

diego

This was such a cool interaction, the guy is genuinely interesting to listen to and getting to hear his perspective on writing and the creative process was really insightful and fun. David Lynch famously said that his creative process was like fishing for ideas, waiting patiently and you never know when something will pop into your head and you immediately need to act on it. Excellent interview, I think you all asked some great questions.

Martian Mishaps

SO MUCH CREEPCAST CONTENT!!! GONNA CHUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Makdaddyb_

I’m glad we finally got a interview

Nopey

This was so awesome. What a spectacular person and conversation, had me hanging on every word. Really looking forward to my next Penpal listen!

HALFMANxHALFGOD

Fantastic stuff! Really enjoyed author interview. Penpal is easily my favorite story to date on the pod

Korey Sarven

I think I have listened to the PenPal episode, no joke, 30 times, I’m so exited to listen to this.

Dennis DO

it would be really cool if you guys could get jack anderson of left right game too! this was really cool to watch

BogDance06

Penpal was goated

Grits Kun

Very true, he talked about about his wedding not in the best light lol. Especially that horse Alison rode on.

MoonCakez

I watched all of it, but I did it at work. I can't sit still and watch that long of a episode.

MoonCakez

Bout to buy the book 💀😂

Shelby Myers

Loved this, hope you guys can do more 👌🏻

Shelby Myers

Dathan's style of putting the story together would give me incredible anxiety lol

Ready Made Lobotomy

This is awesome!

Ally Edgell

What Harry did should never be forgotten. What Harry did should never be forgiven.

Dakota

Good call posting this with the most recent episode cause woof. That one was a doozy.

Jacob B.

Awesome guy. Good vibes.

Myles KM

Great keep it up

Roachsteppaz

Ok fine I’ll rewatch the Penpal episode for the 100th time 🙄🙄

Mia

I love this. This story struck me emotionally so much so that I bought the book but I haven’t read it for myself yet because I know what comes at the end and I’m not ready to go through that again. When you can evoke such a strong emotional reaction like that out of the reader you definitely have a great and memorable story on your hands.

Marisela Dean

Someone needs to draw Dathan as Goku going, "I'm following in his footsteps"

Eggy63

More interviews please!!!

Ethan Wallace

This is peak content!! PEEEEEAAAAAAK!

Chris Pitts

great interview guys!! so cool hearing from dathan, as someone who’s a chronic planner and trying to “discovery write” more there was a lot of interesting points made. especially agree with the power of online writing communities in letting people of all skill levels share their stuff! in the future if yall do another author interview it’d be cool if you asked on patreon or youtube community posts or something if the viewers have any questions we’d like answered!

vinny

I love when I get to the end and he says normal people wouldnt have watched the 11 hour Mother Horse Eyes. I did in one sitting. My husband calls me a mutant every day. Red head blue eyes and negative mutant blood! I guess they are right

MeGan MangOLD

True story, Hunter was not this happy even when he got married

Gabriel

bros first story became a beloved horror masterpiece, Dathan ur the goat this was one of the earliest stories they covered and its still my favorite covered on the show thank you for writing !!!!!!

meatgooner69

I really hope they read bad man some time

craptopia

Awesome interview, PayPal is definitely my favorite of the stories they’ve covered.

Matthew Robison

I never even bought a book before penpal, besides the school book fair years ago

Josh Halter

Definitely would love more author interviews!

Josh Halter

I loved these two before they started the podcast, but the Penpal episode solidified my love for horror writing and what Isaiah and Hunter bring to the community. This one story has inspired me to write my own so thank you to all three of you❤️

Quentin W.

I have watched it so many times. Then I watch Darbo. I have no life!

MeGan MangOLD

I agree. As long as they do not talk about their reactions to 5 and Alpha!

MeGan MangOLD

1. Absolutely love content like this. 2. RSS feed, please.

Cory Henderson

Now that's interesting 😜 especially the last episode,I'd like to know what was going on in the authors head to end it off with a goblin....

Can'tSellTickeyWickeys/SoWeSuckSaudieDickies JK ❤️

Hunters great with his interviews!

MeGan MangOLD

This was very interesting. I enjoyed it.

MeGan MangOLD

So nice to hear from the dude about everything. Always fun getting a peak inside their head.

Zergling50

I still will say penpal was one of the best early nosleeps, it just got that relationship between the boys that makes it above other stories, and for me one of the strongest versions of the brocode. It's also one of the few stories of that early youtube/podcast era that really stuck with me for the longest.

Baal

THIS WAS SO AWESOME. I really love hearing from an author and I really hope they do this with more stories. I’d be curious to see if they could talk to an author whose story they kinda goofed on and the author received it well.

Brian Castillo

It’s really nice hearing these kinds of things from authors that are loved so much by the community, and seeing the struggle/journey of what it took to write these kinds of things. Especially since we don’t see this part of the process, it gives hope for aspiring writers like myself to go out and put my works out there. The writing journey feels a little less lonely in that sense. Thanks for the amazing interview guys! Lots of love

sam

Oh this kicks ass. Super interesting and honestly really motivational/helpful for folks trying to get into the art of horror

evil white guy

This was such a great interview and im excited for more interviews down the line!!

Zippofiber

I was gonna say 😋

Hania

Such an amazing story from an amazing author and this was an awesome video! Super cool to see and hear from everyone :)

crystalizedcanines

Y’all should read badman

Nölan

More of this PLEASE

Lillex

I think one of my favorite stories is penpal. The way you guys covered the story but also the story itself. I fell in love with the way it was told and you had to put it together in a really creative way. I cant wait to read coma v2 max when it comes out!

Sean Allen

You guys should try and get on the person who made left right game! That’s my fav story you’ve covered and I must’ve listened too those episodes 3 or 4 times

Lennan Lacasse

I think that, since this is so good and Penpal is such an important story, this interview should be uploaded to the CreepCast yt channel for everyone to enjoy!

Jax Ott

I really wish Patreon would do a casting thing so I can watch this from my phone to tv

YES

chase rivera

i’m pretending like this is the episode for this week.

Bailey Smith

I would love to see you guys read the author's favorite part of their stories with them the next time you get someone on, like whatever part of the story that had impacted the author the most when they were writing it or whatever part they enjoyed getting people's reaction from, like if you guys put aside a little more time just to do that I think you could get even better reception off of this outside of how fun this episode already was

Mr. E

this was so so so awesome. i hope you guys can get jack anderson (left right game) on here as well!

kiera

Penpal was the first “creepypasta” I personally read, I loved the story so much that it was the first creepcast episode I watched too. Thank you Dathan for taking the chance to write this story and changing my life

LouieLouie43

I’d like to hear an interview from the author of hidden webpage

Im working on a story heavily inspired my the pen pal aesthetic and themes. Dathan is such an inspiration for upcoming writers

Gun Magician

Do more of these absolutely

Cple Williams

To all the impatient Patreons who complain about lack of content I say: suck an egg. Tyty

Fidel Tafolla

Definitely a brilliant idea for interviews with the authors. I think it would be fun if they could do an interview with Tony lunedi (spire in the woods).

Graymatter28

This was so cool to watch. Penpal was one of the stories that, I would say, got me really into creeppastas/scary stories. I loved hearing about Dathan's experience with nosleep and the way he works and writes. I definitely love watching you guys talk to the authors :)

Chloe Mahala

Loved the interview and it is really interesting hearing the process behind everything. Hopefully there are more author interviews in the future

Vee

So happy how this turned out. PLEASE GOD MORE haha

Bbmn221

They should create patreon only chats for the audience. That way the ones on reddit dont get angry when people talk sbout patreon eps

starmamma🤍

Penpal is now so big that my therapist in the Philippines recommended the book to me without any knowledge that it was a creepypasta

Josh

I love this! I gotta check out bad guy!

Fernanda

He said somewhere that he wrote Penpal in his late 20s, and that would be almost 15 years ago now

Boonie Bound

The fact that this was his first proper story is insane! Loved this interview style kind of video btw

CryingFroggy22

God, that must be so gratifying and validating to have a community so enthralled with your work; that they immediately support every single piece as it comes out, and literally push you to continue submitting. That’s such a rare situation, and the result is such an amazing piece of literature. Community driven art at it’s finest.

DreamEaterMusic

This really makes me want to write again after being in a slump for so long, Creepcast interviews are S tier!

Kay Young

This was incredible. Not only was it an amazing interview with so much insightful questions and such. It was just so fun. It was just such a great time listening to you guys talk writing but also just goof off. The creepcast format + author interviews is perfect. Amazing stuff! Also was great hearing him need out about the pod a bit. Hes so talented too. Footsteps being essentially the first thing he wrote is just wild. He has such an engaging style. I finished Bad Man earlier this year (great book) and I was maybe halfway through it and something hooked me so hard that I binged the rest of the book in ine sitting. My brain is cooked and it can be hard for me to read for long periods of time, but he knocked that down and I had to read it through the night to the morning. Can't wait for his next one! And looking forward to more author interviews too!

Crash Kamio

They need to read badman

Colton Serven

This was awesome! Currently reading his book, Bad Man, so it was cool to see some of the author’s perspectives and how he started writing. Can’t wait for more interviews!
