March 2021 Files.

[TLDR summary at the bottom]

---------------------------------

Folder content.

Content is a bit all over the place again, with some really fun stuff this month! Like a possible Twilight Link design?? I'm sure there's better ones out there BUT it was really fun and honestly I'd like to keep playing with this idea, so you might see more in the future! I hope you like him!

Also I tried making characters using dessert photos as inspiration? Really fun, and I'd like to take a few of those designs a bit further!

There's also some uhh.. layout? background ideas?... It's not something I do much but I find it fun, even sketching small things like an interesting wall, or piece of furniture? The sketches usually suck so I try to leave them out but I thought I'd leave my favorites this time. [The possibility of trying to make stuff in 3D just makes me want to do these sketches more! Even though it might be more trouble than it's worth, haha]

And finally some OC sketches, like Tekki and my "fankids" [my FanOCs from Homestuck]: You'll see June and Lita.

I also finished a commission early in the month of Dessh, F20B20's [Furaffinity] Asura Durid! I left the last 3 stages: Flat colors, Painted, Finishing touches!

[I thought I'd try to talk a bit about the folder contents this time? Let me know what you think!]

---------------------------------

CSP's Timelapse Feature.

Another interesting thing: I'm trying out Clip Studio Paint's new "Timelapse Feature"!

You don't see everything [like selections or the layers or what's going on outside the canvas], But it records all strokes and you don't have to remember to press record or anything, also you don't have to see me hide and unhide layers constantly, or zoom in all the time, you get the full picture ! It's very convenient and I'll try to keep using this feature! Only lame part is that I usually draw on Paint Tool SAI, so I won't be recording a lot of things. But yeah this is exciting!

I'm attaching the first two timelapse tests I made for separate download:

They're both very simple, aimless sketches. On the second I wanted to see what would happen if I start with a large file and then crop and resize [since that's how I always draw]. It keeps the cropped resolution but shows the whole canvas, so things look tiny. Good to know! I think the best thing will be to start recording after I've made a sketch and cropped it.

---------------------------------

Monthly Piece Update.

I wanted to wait and post everything together, but I'm still working on the Caithe/Eir piece! It won't be much longer, I don't think so. But from now on, I want to make sure I post something by the 5th!

I'll post the Caithe/Eir piece on it's own post once it's finished. Something I think will be very cool is that I'm recording a Timelapse as well!! [Got a bit worried because of some crashes and issues with saving the file but it looks like everything is ok!]

I will start the polls for the April Monthly piece either later today or tomorrow, and will start working on the winning piece once the Caithe/Eir one is finished!

For now, some previews:

---------------------------------

3D stuff!

And lastly, I'd like to give an update on the 3D side of things!

I've decided to start over with the Asura [Tekki] model and so I'm currently back on the sculpting stage!

The reason is that coming back to the previous file was just getting really frustrating, I think I messed up the topology and positioning of the arms/shoulder, which makes it extremely frustrating trying to rig it! and I find it really hard to fix, because the mesh has deviated so much from the sculpt, so I can't fix the topology as easily [I'm terrible at box modeling, I need to lay polygons on top of a sculpt..]

This time I think it will be way better! First of all, focusing on a single character instead of trying to make a "base body" that can work for a ton of different characters just makes things so much better, straightforward and simple! [that was... way too ambitious/advanced for me]. I also want to try making this new model a bit more simple, and want to fix some things I wasn't liking too much about my previous model:

Neck too long, Torso too thin and curved [moving the neck was just really awkward looking, and the torso was a struggle to weight paint, I kind of got a result I liked but.. could've been way easier I think.]

Face: I was getting tired of always seeing a blank face that looked like none of my characters. Also, while having the mouth open made working on the inside of the mouth a delight, having it closed is better for rigging I think, and the open mouth just didn't look very good/appealing.

Other things: I do like flat asura like in the game... but the more I worked on this, the more I missed the body not having nipples or boobs. So I'll give Tekki some! And also I'll try to make this mesh a bit less dense.

I struggled with this decision,  it felt like a failure and waste of time, and there were a lot of things I really liked from the previous model! I really liked how the genitalia turned out, I didn't get to test it with a rig, but I thought the topology and shapes were nice! I also liked the inside of the mouth! I'll see if I can re-use some stuff, but if not I'll probably just share the Blend file, so it serves some purpose other than stay forgotten in my computer.

For now, it does feel good to start over, I feel the excitement of starting something new and the motivation coming back!

TLDR.

Comments

[oops, I think I just commented instead of replying;; I'm copy pasting what I wrote;;] <33 I was really looking forward to sharing the twilink thing I'm so happy it's being well received! :'D <3. Oh no you're absolutely right, I was trying to get a summer kinda feel with those color pieces! [The character designs were the ones based on desserts? like cakes and sweets!] I'm glad you like the time-lapse quality!! Though I must admit I just uploaded as it was saved by ClipStudio! I'm not sure how heavy the one for the monthly piece will get but hopefully it's not huge! [And even if it was a little too big, I could research on how to decrease that size, probably!]. Also, really happy you like the monthly piece so far! I'm trying to make sure the wait will be worth it! >:D Yeah!! You are describing it perfectly! And those are exactly my hopes as well [Keeping the ideas/parts I like and caryring them over the new thing]. This is what I want to try, to keep in mind the things that went well, and trying to remember not to make the previous mistakes! I think another aspect that's adding to the frustration the most though is the fact I haven't quite finished a single model yet, even the ones that got pretty close, there's always something missing, so I feel like I want to "start" already [animation], but I'm stuck in the step before the beginning? Thank you! I get what you mean and I appreciate the intention, it did put things into perspective and help, seeing the bigger picture! ;v; thank you so much!

Ooo, I love the variety in here! The Twilink stuff is probably my favorite overall, but there were some nice summer (or possibly desert, it sounds like, after reading your longer posts) vibes/color-schemes in some of the pictures, and it's interesting to see some of the character designs and the way you're working through them. The timelapse quality is _great_, especially considering how small those files are. Normally people upload them and it's over a gig each, so the small size + detail is awesome. Still looking forward to the monthly piece, it's look awesome in the previews. As for big about your model, I feel like most of those kinds of things are a no-win scenario mentally. Like, unless you get it completely perfect first time, it's always going to feel less-than-ideal? I mean, if you dump tons of effort into trying to make a limited one work, you're going to be mad if you have to redo it later or settle for less. If you move on early, you're going to feel like maybe you should have tried harder on the first one. If you need to try a third, it's going to also feel kind of rough, but ultimately, I think getting the quality where you want it is going to be the most important. At least, that's how I think from the standpoint of a writer/coder. There are a lot of times I've written scenes (or code) and had to dump it, which felt bad, but the _ideas_ I liked I carry over, even if it's not the actual words/code. Then again, maybe that only applies to me, and you have your own flow. Not trying to harsh your mellow or anything, just trying to...mm...put it in perspective maybe? Either way, I am sure the end result will be great, whenever you find a spot you like. >:]
