Captain Pikant Recap 2023

Now that 2023 is nearly over we thought it might be nice to take a look back together with you.

2023 was the third year of our channel and our most successful one yet! We got extremely lucky with 1000 Days of Drum Patterns, Kraftwerk, 808 History and Björk's Hunter all gaining a lot more views and attention than expected - which we are very happy about.

Some weren't quite as popular, mainly the Donner review (but hey at least portamento got implemented thanks to our feedback) and the rhythm training video - nonetheless we are proud of them (plus we still really like the rhythm training concept and since many of you told us they found it helpful, we still want to make another one).

This year we released 10 videos plus a guest appearance on Bad Gear. Originally our goal was a schedule of roughly one video per month, however the big ones like Kraftwerk and Daft Punk containing multiple mini-jams single-handedly foiled these plans :) But they were among our favourites to make and we learned a lot! Ironically our most viewed video got claimed because we used a few seconds from "Hall of Mirrors" and "Planet Rock" in it. So if you get some annoying mid-roll ads in this video, they are not from us - we usually deactivate them everywhere we can. Oh well...

Our Patreon community also grew a lot which we are incredibly happy and grateful about. Working on our content is something we look forward to from the minute we wake up in the morning. Although it can be tough to balance our "normal jobs" with our passion, it has become clear to us that through determination (and meticoulus planning) we can make the time to bring the ideas we have in our minds into reality. It is still our dream to try doing this full-time for a while and thanks to you this possibility is getting scarily close ;)

Building a community of people who share and support our passion has been incredibly rewarding and we cherish every comment and interaction we have with you. We released 28 new drum pattern this year (a lot of them suggested by you guys) and 5 new Cheat Sheets (not counting the various updates to the older ones).

Doing all of this would be impossible without you and we are very excited about what the next year will bring. Speaking of which: The upcoming video will be released early January along with a handful of shorter drum pattern transcriptions and a new chapter in the Drum Machine 101 Book :)
