Tuesday sprint report

Sprint target: release Female Agent 1.4
Days worked: 4 | Pomodoros logged: 28
Task points completed: 2/154

Fourth sprint day. Today I started work on the skill packages – as you play through the Lifepath, the choices that you make improve various skills that your agent has. (For example, if her first job is pizza delivery rider, she gets experience in the Motorbike skill, which will enable her to ride mopeds in Bangkok.)

Previous dev versions just awarded skill levels, but now the game has a working experience point (XP) and levelling system. When you use a skill, you earn XP in it, and will level up over time.

One thing I dislike in adult games (and games in general, actually) is grinding to level up, so we're not planning to implement that kind of gameplay in Female Agent. Instead of being used to gate off content, your agent's skill levels will determine whether she succeeds or fails at any given task, and our aim is to make both outcomes interesting.

Example: in a planned side quest, the agent is hired as a high class escort to accompany a client to a formal dinner. The agent will make an Etiquette skill roll to use good table manners; agents from a privileged background, or have experience waitressing, will have a high chance of succeeding at this roll.

Succeeding at the roll wins the client's respect and leads to him being wowed by the agent; failing the roll causes him to look down on her as kind of trashy. Both results lead to different, interesting outcomes to the encounter.

Next dev day is tomorrow and I aim to finish this tasking, which will move 10 task points into the "completed" column. There are currently 75 task points being worked on.

That system was terribly broken in Daggerfall, despite all the text in the manual about how much more sense it made. Join Fighter's Guild, go inside, jump until exhausted, rest, jump until exhausted, rest, jump until exhausted, rest, level up, add points to WIL, get better at magic?
Join one of the temples (Kynareth?) that lets you make your own custom spells as a novice, make the lamest possible fire bolt spell and burn off all your mana casting that before you sleep each time, raise your Destruction that way, level up and add points to SPD, making you a better swordsman?
Making a custom character class that was forbidden from using any kind of armour at all was an option, too. Run around naked and blow stuff up. J

You earn XP specifically in the skill being used, so it's more like Morrowind. Some kind of character trait system is definitely planned, I will add your Slow Learner idea to my documentation for it.

That sounds awesome can't wait to test them out good luck buddy

'earn xp in it' as in like Morrowind where you got better at stealth by being stealthy, or better stamina by running to exhaustion? Basically, using the skill leads to it improving? Or was that a typo and you get xp for using a skill like in Fallout 1/2 (and others) and it goes toward the character's overall level and you improve the skill with skill points you get when you level?I'm assuming the first, which I do like. I wonder, what if there's a character trait like 'slow learner'? It might be a trait that you select and in exchange it gives you some other bonus of your choice (like extra beauty, or 2 beginner-level skills), or 1 other perk. I kind of like the idea of having a slow-to-learn character who never stops being trashy, for instance, or is forced to constantly take taxis and blow the cabbie because she hasn't learned to drive and taking the taxis keeps her too broke to pay all the time.
