Preview/Update 24/10/21

Good morning/day/evening, folks! Ugh… time zones… Have a look at a little Age of Sigmar thing I’ve been killing time with. It’s nice to stretch my legs with something different from time to time, ya know?

So, Dark is (finally) done, and Canon SI is progressing. It’s not quite at the point where I’m ready to share previews yet, but it’s getting there. She needs a bit more love and care lol. I’ve been having a really bad small brain week, and I didn’t get nearly as much done as I wanted. I had the nerve pain medication I’ve been taking increased (doubled, actually), which has been making me kinda dopey. And giving me wicked bad cotton-mouth, but that’s anecdotal.

As for the preview, it’s an excerpt from a story I’m writing about my Age of Sigmar army. Basically, a city was annexed and people were taken prisoner, so there’s a big group going to go get them back, with help from the locals that got booted out and the elves that want the refugees the fuck out of their forest. It’s all a big mess lol. That’s the narrative behind my army, anyway. It’s also a rare look at the ‘chicken scratch’ stage of drafting, where I desperately try to get a framework down for a story, before I pad it out. It’s fun to think up this kinda stuff; you know, reasons for why things are the way they are in your games. I especially like the character Sister Odessa, from the preview; mostly because I used a hella rare old mini to represent her on the tabletop, which I am having all kinds of fun painting. Kinda. So much layering… and that fucking hood! Such a pain in the ass to get a brush in at her face. But I love her anyway.

Actually, Games Workshop are doing open submissions for short stories again next month. I don’t like my odds; as I’ve said before, my writing style doesn’t quite match what’s ‘normal’ for Warhammer stories (I’ve been told my style is too ‘fun’ for them). But, never hurts to try. If I manage to get something decent written, I’ll share it here, too. I’m thinking that a colony effort out in the dangerous jungle is wiped out by orks, and the survivors team up with the wood elves that also live in the region to get some revenge. Or something to that effect, anyway.

So, not much else happening. I discovered a lovely new YouTube channel called Snipe and Wib, which tends to focus on old school Warhammer stuff. Which I dig. Like, hella old school. I’m talking 1980s shit, and it is bizarre some of the stuff that used to be part of this game. There was a ‘bird feet’ mutation for your characters. It was a thing. It had no bearing on anything except being ‘unatractive’. I love 80s GW. I’ve also had the new Ice Nine Kills album on repeat in my car for the last week. It’s so good! Metal about old horror movies. It just works.

I suppose that’s enough rambling from me for another week. Thanks for your continued support, welcome to my new patrons, and Nagaspeed!
