CHOMP and Manufacturer Woes

CHOMP is just around the corner, and I've been dedicating a lot of time to getting this event off the ground. Deciding to tackle much of this on my own might not have been the smartest idea, but I’m glad I did. I’m learning a lot about the ins and outs of running larger events, and I'm excited to see where this journey takes me. We sold out all 300 tickets last night, which happened much faster than I expected. It looks like Florida is eager for events, so I'll provide the space whenever I can.

Overall, I want to host this event twice a year. I’m not sure if both events will have the same setup. I might do one like the current format and make the second one less formal, perhaps a picnic. Time will tell. If you want to know more about the event, be sure to follow our socials and check our website regularly. I’m posting updates frequently.

On a less positive note, one of our wolf plush manufacturers has turned out to be unreliable. It’s been months since December, and they still haven’t provided a prototype that resembles my design. Despite repeatedly asking them for non-printed fur, they keep sending the wrong items and asking for more money. I had to get PayPal involved to try to get a refund. It’s uncertain if that will happen. The company has been dragging its feet, making excuses, and blaming me, the customer. It’s eye-opening to see how abusive some companies can be, especially since I deal with customers all the time.

On a brighter note, I found two other manufacturers with much better products and communication. I’ve already paid for samples. One company is making a sample of a puppy doll with clothing, which I’m very excited about. They’ve been very easy to talk to, so we’ll see how that goes. For the larger plush, I chose another company experienced in working with fur. Their samples for other customers have been gorgeous, so I’m hopeful.

Dealing with overseas manufacturers can be hit or miss, and unfortunately, it sometimes feels like spinning a wheel and hoping for a good outcome. It’s a lot of work, but finding the right one feels like discovering a needle in a haystack.
