I still love the song because they were being real and it reflected their feelings as boys/men. BUT I appreciate that they understood the misogynist undertones and adjusted their future lyrics to avoid hurting or upsetting others. That shows maturity and growth. They wanted to be a safe place for everyone and they did that.

I agree with RM that this controversy ultimately was helpful and allowed them to grow. They can now be role models as they reject the toxic masculinity that is revered around the world.
