Stuff

I’ve slowly begun going through some of my things in preparation for our move next year. I’m already going to have a lot of heavy stuff to transfer, mainly my record collection, arcade cabinet, and pinball machine, so if I can get rid of some bulk that will make me happy. My current focus is on my books. I have a lot of them and surprisingly I still have some left over from college, so those can easily be tossed.

Next up is the board games, but I won’t really be getting rid of those. My plan is to get in touch with my cousin in Buffalo who runs some game nights and see if he’d be interested in them. He can have them if he wants, under the rule that I can borrow them if I need them. Truth is, I don’t play many board games here in San Diego. I love them, but Vani isn’t a huge fan and the friends I did play with moved away. Getting them out of the apartment would clear an entire bookshelf, so this is something I want to do sooner rather than later.

I’ve mentioned potentially selling off some of my longest-held collections, and while they would provide a decent amount of money they wouldn’t free up nearly as much space as the above mentioned stuff. I’ve found that is truly the impetus for me getting rid of things: to reclaim the space I lost in my twenties and thirties when I was buying way too much stuff. It’s a bit too common for me to look at something I have and think “Did I really need this? What the hell was I thinking?” and I’m finding the whole process therapeutic.
