Tales of Skyrim - Berserkyr

A bit later than expected, but also with a bit more content than expected: the berserkers mod is (almost) done!

There is a lot to talk about but the mod is basically feature full at this point, with the exception of the small quest I'm planning to implement. For the moment, with this beta release, you will have to use the two following console commands to become a werebear:

player.addspell XX08C581

set BOS_RitualDonePlayer to 1

For the first command line, replace XX with the position of the mod in your load order. It will give your character the berserker's curse with all its effects. The second one tells the game that you have done the ritual (this will be the small quest in the final release) and it will modify different magic effects in your game.

Concerning the content, here is an overview:

*The werebears are not just a reskin of werewolves but their own thing, with mechanics reworked from the ground up. You will have a small tutorial after your first transformation. Basically, werebear transformations happen when you are in combat and low on health. You get perk points by killing enemies and creatures, and feeding on them will regenerate health. You can eat both humans and creatures/animals from the start.

*The werebear skill tree has two main branches. One is for werebear form buffs and powers, the other concerns your character in human form. This should make a berserker/barbarian build fun to play.

*You can find shrines of Tsun in the wilderness. They will grant you light armor and stamina regen bonus, and also prevent automatic transformations in combat if you have the Berserker's Curse. You can also loot amulets of Tsun on Berserkers that will have the same effects.

*You will find a new ingredient, the Bear's Paw. This hallucinogen will grant you a small buff if you are a non-berserker. If you are a berserker, the mushroom will trigger a transformation. In combination with the amulet of Tsun, this allows you to totally control when you transform.

*You can encounter the new berserker enemies near the shrines of Tsun. There are four different locations at the moment, because I want to keep these relatively rare.

*The berserker enemies come with a new Bear Fur Hat (repurposed vanilla stormcloak hat) and a new Bear Fur Armor. Some wear a Shaman Hat.

*If you do the companions questline as a werebear, the Berserker's Curse will be lifted when you do the werewolf ritual (in the same manner as with Vampire Lords).

*The Ring of Hircine has been modified to react accordingly if you are a Werebear, and its description has been adapted as well. You will have random transformations with the cursed version and a power transformation if you receive it at the end of Hircine's quest. (Important: don't forget to use "set BOS_RitualDonePlayer to 1" for it to work)

*Two loading screens have been added, adding to the lore

*I've forwarded the necessary USSEP edits

REQUIREMENT: Custom Skills Framework (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/41780)

Well, I think that's about it! Hopefully, the full release will be before the end of this month. I hope you will enjoy it and I'm looking forward to your feedback.

Cheers!

I will probably make one

Will you add a patch for The Old Ways mod since it adds in the other shrines from the old Nordic pantheon alongside Tsun?

Thanks! Have fun

Thanks for your feedback! Concerning the Companions, I could look into it but I didn't go for it initially for two reason: 1) I'm not sure it would be believable knowing the feud between werebear and werewolves. Maybe it's exclusive to Solstheim, in which case why not. I'll have to look up the lore. 2) I wanted to not touch the companions quest at all for compatibility reasons. Simply removing the werebear power allowed me to do that, and it may be more complicated to add a prompt for the player or a message without touching the Companions' quest data. But again, I could look into it

Absolutely epic, wil be rolling with a new Stormcloak berserker this week 💪

Only you can add a touch of Nordic fantasy. I really like what you've done. From what I've seen, it's a lot of fun to play, and the transformation when we're low on life is a very interesting part of the gameplay. I'll keep watching. I was wondering if it wouldn't be interesting to integrate an option to keep your werebear curse during the companion quest series. I understand the mechanics, but I think it's a shame to have to purge the curse and start the process all over again. I was thinking that an intervention by Tsun or Hircine could be an interesting context. This could roughly be a message appearing on the screen just before landing outside Skyforge, suggesting that we keep our form or accept that of our companions (in broad terms). Anyway, great mod :)
