[Marvel's Magic Master] Chapter 256: The Golden Dragon is Equivalent to a Dragon Crystal

The Light Elves, clad in elven battle attire, radiated golden light as they fought fiercely against Morgoth's vast army of darkness.

The Adagalan Plains in the northern part of the Elven City had already been consumed by raging fires, reduced to a wasteland of scorched earth.

Among Morgoth’s dark army, the most dazzling—and terrifying—presence was a colossal golden dragon, its body as massive as a mountain.

With every breath of fire it exhaled, it incinerated swathes of elven warriors.

Its dragon scales were exceptionally tough, making it nearly impervious even to the enchanted arrows of the Light Elves.

Worse still, it was cunning. Every time it unleashed its fiery breath, it would immediately retreat, never giving the elves a chance to concentrate their arrows in a targeted volley.

Because of this, the golden dragon posed an even greater threat to the elven army than the dreaded Balrogs.

Unlike the dragon’s flames, the Balrogs' fire was neither as fast nor as widespread. Their primary mode of attack involved fire whips and flaming swords, which the quick-reacting Light Elves could often dodge.

As long as they managed to surround a Balrog, twenty Light Elven warriors could trap an ordinary one, and with fifty, they had a chance of taking it down.

However, this was the first time they had ever encountered a dragon. Caught unprepared, they had no means of defense against its flames. But once they developed flame-resistant gear, the golden dragon would no longer be as terrifying.

"So this is the first progenitor dragon that Morgoth bred? And it’s this enormous?"

George was stunned by the sheer size of the golden dragon.

In the Harry Potter world, the largest dragon was the Ukrainian Ironbelly, yet this golden dragon was at least ten times its size.

Compared to Smaug, the legendary dragon of the Third Age, the difference was laughable.

If Smaug were here, he probably wouldn’t even survive a single volley from the Light Elves.

"If I kill such a massive golden dragon and forge a Dragon Crystal from it... does that mean I could become a Fire Dragon Slayer?"

At that moment, a wild thought surged in George’s mind.

The method of creating Dragon Crystals existed in the Fairy Tail library, as Laxus' father had used it before.

George had already studied the process, preparing for the day he might encounter a dragon in the Fairy Tail world, so he could immediately forge a Dragon Crystal.

But dragons in the Harry Potter world were too weak and unintelligent. Even if he turned one into a Dragon Crystal, it wouldn’t be of much use, so he had never bothered to try.

However, this golden dragon was different—it was a creature Morgoth had spent over four centuries cultivating. As the first dark dragon directly created by the Dark Lord, it possessed extraordinary intelligence. It could even taunt the elven army while spewing fire.

If he forged a Dragon Crystal from such a dragon, it might not be any weaker than those from the Fairy Tail world.

More importantly, it might not even come with the Dragon Slayers' infamous motion sickness weakness.

"Charge!"

Brigolas let out an angry roar and led 800 human warriors, cutting into the orc army like a sharp blade as they rushed toward the main force of the elves.

Though not as powerful as the Light Elves, their fearless determination greatly enhanced their combat strength.

In large-scale warfare, individual power mattered, but morale was even more crucial.

The Light Elves had not fought in a long time, and being caught off guard had dampened their spirits. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been pushed all the way back to their capital so quickly.

Despite their reputation in the Battle of Five Armies, orcs were little more than cannon fodder when facing the individually superior Light Elves. They relied solely on overwhelming numbers to claim victory.

In terms of single-combat ability, they weren’t necessarily stronger than humans at this stage.

The sudden flank attack by the 800 warriors caught the orc army off guard, tearing open a gap in their encirclement and giving the elves a chance to regroup.

And that was when George made his move.

If he didn’t act now, even if the 800 warriors managed to break through and join the elven army, they would likely lose at least 200 men in the process.

"Rain of Light!"

A golden magic circle appeared behind George, and sacred light-infused arrows rained down upon the orcs, who were just about to turn and intercept Brigolas and his warriors.

If his memory served him right, the orcs of this era—along with most of Morgoth’s dark forces—were inherently weak to light, whether it be sunlight or moonlight.

That was precisely why Morgoth had chosen to attack at night and had cast a black mist to obscure the moonlight.

Sure enough, when the sacred arrows struck the thick-skinned orcs, they sizzled like acid, instantly corroding their flesh and drawing out ear-splitting screams.

Even Brigolas was surprised at George’s formidable magic. He had assumed that, as a hunter, George would provide aerial support with a bow and arrows.

Yet, instead of a bow, he was using magic—blasting the enemy with holy light arrows, and with remarkable effectiveness at that.

Still, Brigolas reacted swiftly. Letting out a war cry, he and his 800 warriors accelerated to their maximum speed, thrusting their spears forward, finishing off the orcs that had been weakened by George’s attack.

In just a few minutes, they had broken through the orc army and reached the main force of the elves.

Seeing their human allies coming to their aid, the core elven battalion quickly opened up their ranks, allowing them to enter.

Despite being referred to as an “elven army,” the forces outside the elven capital had already been severely depleted due to the orcs' ambush and the relentless assaults from the dragon and the Balrogs.

At this point, fewer than 2,000 Light Elven warriors remained.

Had it not been for the surprise attack by the 800 human warriors disrupting the orcs' offensive rhythm and revitalizing the elves’ morale, their defenses might not have held out much longer.

"Woooooo!"

The deep sound of orc war horns echoed through the battlefield. The orc army, along with the dragon and the Balrogs, momentarily halted their assault.

The unexpected intervention of the human warriors had disrupted the orcs' attack plan, easing the pressure on the elven army. The elves had now fully recovered from the initial ambush and had reestablished a solid defensive formation.

Continuing the attack recklessly would be pointless—it was better to reorganize and launch a more strategic offensive.

This was the decision of the battlefield commander, the demon dragon Glaurung.

Indeed, the central battlefield was under the command of Glaurung, while the western front was led by his deputy, the demon lord Sauron, and the eastern front by the Balrog King, Gothmog.

Morgoth himself remained in the stronghold of Angband, using his divine power to obscure the moonlight.

"I didn’t expect mere humans to be this strong—especially that one flying in the sky, using Light Magic. Didn’t the Dark Lord say that only the Vanyar Elves could wield Light Magic?"

Glaurung was furious that the human reinforcements had disrupted their assault. If not for them, he was confident he could have overrun the elven city within two hours.

If the battle had gone according to plan, he would have secured total victory over the central battlefield tonight and claimed the Dark Lord’s reward.

But now, things had taken an unexpected turn.
