After Mexico
Added 2021-03-18 06:20:34 +0000 UTCI am halfway through the second part of the 3 part Mexico series. At this point, it would be time for me to start working on the video series after Mexico. 4 months ago we did a poll that concluded with you voting for a video about Franceafrique. Unfortunately, another content creator made a video on this topic in the time. However, what is good for us is that the vote was 49.9% to 49.8% split on the topic, with the other possible topic being about the instability of political institutions across Latin America. That video would be called "The Myth of the Caudillo" or something like that. And what we would do in it is take a summary 40 minute view of the evolution of political institutions in all of Latin America throughout the past 500 years to get a good idea for why Latin American political institutions are so unstable. I would also like to take such a video as an opportunity to debunk one fo the most pernicious and annoying myths of our day and age. The Myth of the "benevolent dictator", a very stupid idea that resurfaced in extremist far right and far left circles that claims that a "benevolent dictator" like Pinochet or Castro, can set a country onto a right and corrective course. I would like to tear into that stupid notion and show to people that these were not benevolent dictators and that there is in fact probably no such thing as a benevolent dictator.
But, because I like polls I am going to throw in a second option too. That video would be called "What Korea teaches us about the world". In that video we would look at the division of Korea into North and South Korea and ask a very simple-sounding question. "Why is North Korea so much Poorer than South Korea?" We would then go through the various different explanations that experts, politicians and activists offer. Institutional Economics, Geography, Climate, Culture, Capitalism, Socialism, Statelessness, Imperialism, and more, to in-depth, examine the pros and cons of all these different approaches in analyzing geopolitical situations and historical developments.
Looking forward to what you will choose :)

So sad to see Latin america not make it! I think it is an underdeveloped subject, the differences between south and north korea have been debated and presented so often, it would be a bit boring to be quite frank. Latin America is a place of the world not many focused on before, and it is so interesting due to the fact that it still is a western part of the world, just with a really screwed up system!

2021-03-25 08:43:12 +0000 UTCAs expected, the poll would not favor Latin America. But, hey Kraut, since it's the Far East the attention center nowadays, what about making one or more videos on the Chinese religion or religions? Regular sources claim the Chinese follow 3 religions, but when you meet Chinese people they never talk about their beliefs, and when asked about them they are elusive and simply claim rituals and traditions. That's not an answer. Confucianism is not supposed to be a religion, but more of behavior guidelines, but there are indeed Confusianist temples. What do they worship there? About Tao, it's directly linked to astrology and what I have found in this sense has little to do with what most videos sources say about Taoism, basically a way to simply chill out, relax and rest, which is the opposite of what the Chinese are really like, very striving people. And finally, do Chinese really worship Buddha? They have an awesome art history about Buddha, but regular Chinese seem like detached. Maybe it's just my impressions.
