What people really can't stand about the religious is refusing to admit that they're wrong or have done wrong. Apologise for where you went wrong and state your reasons. Verbally brawling with racists takes its toll, anyone reasonable would understand that you became a little lost in the fray. Once you've centred yourself, I for one will be waiting and ready to support you.
