There is so much I want to do and there’s nothing stopping me. Today I’m working on staging and accompanying me is the work of Sin Jong Hun— a Korean artist I so happen to stumble upon when starting this.
What is staging?
(To my knowledge)To Stage is to direct and convey a scene through illustration, Storyboarding, animation, and other forms of art. A simpler explanations is to tell a story. This task isn’t the easiest to do but, most definitely isn’t an impossible task for any level of artist. Now this does require a lot of planning, a basic understand of art, A concept, and some level of imagination. Also if you’ve been here long enough, again Im not an art teacher— just a girl that doesn’t mind giving tips and sharing her notes after testing a few things out.
But what are you doing?
Okay so the full notes are available to download ( below)—that’s first. Secondly, I’ll briefly summarize all the important things I realized, and felt like noting. If for any reason you have questions and want to learn more — feel free to ask questions in the arttutor chat ( also, there was a request made, that I’m still working on so thank you for your patience). Now I’m start with …
The Plan— So I’ve been exploring the world of Rainbowland and I wanted to capture cinematic levels of illustrations/story telling. At this time my knowledge on backgrounds, environmental work and etc. is very basic and it’s only been 3 years of me truly feeling somewhat confident creating backgrounds. Few things you’re going to want to do is plan and that usually doesn’t have an order, so start where you’re comfortable. However, heres a few places for you to start off with:
Setting: Where are we? Whats is in arms reach? Is it dark? Is there an enticing smell? Its that snow ?
Character/Focus: How many? Where are they exactly? What are they doin?
Color— what colors if any do you see?
Now these (3) starting points ( setting/, Character, and Color) have their own set of follow up questions that should keep you busy as well as work with each. You may also find Yourself revisiting certain questions throughout the process. All this will help you craft astory.
Here’s an examples of mines and how I decided to study the Artist Sin Jong Hun :
“We’re somewhere outside. And On a microscopic level, the sun appears to be only able to peak through what appears to be a forest of grass. “
Pencils to Tablet— Now imagine your inside of a box— this box now has grid a floor and walls. Now lets taking our object and place it down . Whats surround this object? is this object sitting or standing and on what?
The questions from the planning are coming back up but now the goal is to create foundations/ guides that will help answer some of these questions with visuals now .
Now though out the pdf I break things downing further—- not much in words but by visuals. If I your interest in picking my brain again and to continue explaining my notes. Let me know in the comments .
