🌈 Wisp to Rainbowland | Part 2/3

Let me keep you busy this month with another project to look forward to. This Breakdown Cuts into the development of Wisp To Rainbowland. A series I Created based off the 1980s Classic Saturday Morning TV series and toy brand, RainbowBrite. I explore character art, World building and Relationship Dynamic + you Can’t miss a lore dump. This is our introductions to Rainbowland.

Mini Summary and Update 

Quickly I’ll summarize the original story that is Rainbowbrite: Where we follow a young girl named, Wisp who was gifted her name after showing her Bravery and saving her friends from the King Of Shadows. Now going by Rainbowbrite , her and her friends (The Color Children, Twink and Starlight— sometimes Brian) go on wild adventures conjured up by villains Murky and Lurky. Taking us, the viewers, with them on a day of twist and turns— using friendship and colors to help them defeat their enemies and spread love. Now how do we take this 1 hr long toy commercial and really bring it to Life?

• Explore darker themes

• Winding plot twist, Dramatic Reveals and Red herrings.

• While expanding on its world and its possibilities. Taking viewers in the smallest, deepest, furtherest and most magical places you can think of.

I wanted to give readers and Rainbowbrite fans an opportunity to see Wisp with a new look and a deeper meaning— as we dive in, introducing new friends, enemies and places.

Currently, the direction for the story and its plots revolves around this Theme of Seek and Destroy and Lost and Found. We’ll have a lot of opportunity to learn and expand on these themes with plots inspired from the original cartoon and movie. However, since this story isn’t a direct continuation nor, do I have affiliations to the brand and companies that do; I’m also able to add my spin to a classic. Giving us an opportunity to focus on the story from a few different perspectives. We’ll focus on (4) characters out of the many in the cast, as their story helps us ask the questions we didn’t know we needed to know.

Going back to the many characters and places we’ll visit— it’s almost impossible to write for all them but, it is fun and keeps the world itself lively, and interesting for those that do enjoy side quest . So I’m hoping to explore smaller comics, clips, and art.

New Characters / character design and Relationships 

Since there are chapters dedicated to specifically help push the plot as well as, give perspective and nuance— It was time for me to connect the dots and digging into what I call character dynamic mapping. Since I have a pretty decent size library of characters to write for, explore and choose to highlight, it was definitely time to breathe life into the story. With characters like Brian — whose role in the original story seems to act as a bridge to the human world for Rainbowland.

Brian— Brian is a character that has created a conflict within my story. The issue I was presented with was mainly with ( according to the wiki fandom) his relationship to wisp. However, since this information was found on some form of wiki, this leaves his relationship with Wisp an unreliable piece of info and an opportunity for me to take it elsewhere. As this info is only found (based on my research) on that specific wiki fandom. Eventually leading me back to the second storyline I created for him. My first idea for him resulted with me just writing Brian out the story entirely— and this can still happen as I’m developing. However this would marks Brian as the first big fork in the road for my developing and a theme I’ll notice as I continue to piece our overall storyline.

Other characters like our antagonist— Castiel has a new look , name and story. Now Rainbowbrite fans will not recognize his second form or storyline since this is where I start taking my spin on things— and though I fear I’ll loose the attention of most fans at this point, I hope this doesn't stop you all for tagging a long.

Castiel (Cast)— Castiel who’s recently known as the King Of Shadows, in the original series, is this story’s antagonist and one of our major plot pusher in the series . Both of these names he’ll maintain throughout this version but, I really wanted to learn about his origin story since it wasn’t explored . Cast role is obviously a large one and he maintains to be one of (4) character that we’ll be focusing on as the story unfolds. In older concept drawings — he is seen with Long wavy silver hair. However after going through and doing some character changes, as well as, story development, we would get a new look. He now hides behind beautiful thick ice white Locs — which can be paired with his shy but, serious in nature personality. With his locs pulled back in a ponytail and his fringe pieces covering his face- this style gives him a more reserved but cool and mysterious look . His Locs are also styled with shaved sides and nape as a young man because, it reveals a time in his life where he left his back exposed for the world. As he ages he would grow his loc’s, pushing them back and covering himself. It was this time in his life where he found himself more guarded, However he wasn’t going to hid cowardly but, in plain sight. He would grow a beard and disguise himself carefully to protect the things he loved and himself. Though he was still willing to live amongst a world that has always misunderstood him — he never truly hide his anger and often found himself being the one antagonized. And as our story continues we’ll learn about his plans and revenge . Currently in present time he chooses to stay hidden and modestly covers his shimmery luminance skin and ice white locs.

In my next post, maybe we’ll take a look at the cycle of a star and its many hybrids. Or maybe I’ll breakdown some lore, about Wisp and sunny relationship and how its involvement to this story is heavily important. I want to tell so much of this story without telling it all— and though thats bit Impossible at this time since there’s so much story to uncover, I’m hoping to work with a few writers soon to help me tell you all just enough to keep you all hooked.

For now I’ll leave this concept work of the fallen— a group of individuals we’ll learn about soon for you to indulge. I’ll also explore some costume designs and hair styles in the meantime will I find individuals willing to work on this project . Plus, since I’m still in the developmental stages of this project — i can still explore Overall styling for the aeries sense it has been in question. Im just glad I can share these concepts with you all and create such a project. Till then keep drawing.
