Erynis- chapter 12- painting the ghostly glowing blue hair

Hi Folks,

I am happy to be able to finally release the final chapter of Erynis the grief bearer - from Inu Kingdoms.

This video is focused on painting Erynis blue hair! But we are not going for a normal blue hair, both the concept art and the model suggest, something between hairs and a blazing ghostly blue flame.

I waited till the last moment to introduce the blue hair, I wanted to make sure all other elements are painted as the OSL from the hair hits a lot of objects.

We have been following the concept art quite closely when it comes to color placement and textures. If we have a look at the OSL in the illustration we can see that the artist used the blue osl from the hair as a rim light to separate the figure from the backdrop and get overlapping elements like the left and the armor clearly structured. 

The OSL is not hitting the face at all, if you would paint it more realistically the blue shine of the hair would most probably overpower all tones in the face.

We are doing the same to keep it also closer to the concept,

even though it feels strange to have elements like the collar receiving some of the blue shine and nothing at all on the head.

 Personally, I think the hairs have a huge influence on the overall appearance and atmosphere of the model ht blue hair gives her quite a cartoony look and I would love to see her painted with a darker more grim, or moody palette for the hair. Alright... Enough talk, now enjoy the very last chapter of erynis!
