2025-04-11 02:39:17 +0000 UTCThis movie deserves all 5’s. Such a fun movie. I can’t believe none of you have ever seen it before. I was 24 when it came out and I watched it in the theater. Still have a Stitch stuffed animal that I got back then. It produced a Disney Channel series and sequel movies to video, so pretty big. I noticed in the credits Stitch holding a leaf over a turtle, it reminded me of toddler Moana doing that for the baby turtle. And I like how Oak referenced LOTR, but then mentioned Smaug who was in The Hobbit. 😛

When my boyfriend and I separated, she was desperate because she thought she was losing me. I held her tight in my arms and whispered O'Hana means Family. Family means nobody gets left behind." and she replied with "Or forgotten". 6 years later, we just came back from a Disney trip. I was going with my Godson, and contacted her mother. She allowed me to take my (now) 15 year old (former) niece. One of my favourite picture from that trip? Her and me, with Stitch in the middle.

This, Atlantis, Emperor's New Groove were constant rewatches for me. Stitch is still my absolute favorite animated character to date!

They are truly some of the most well rounded, believable characters in a children's movie. And as an illustrator who uses watercolor, this film is pure eye candy. Every single background was hand painted in watercolor to create the Hawaii feel. Now I just stare in awe at those landscapes every time I see it.

I never looked into it or considered watching it. So coming into this i knew absolutely nothing,and man its up there with some of the best animated movies ive seen. A masterclass in blending humor,action,fun and serious tones/drama/life lessons. Just a great time all around,had me laughing and smiling all the way through..cant ask for much more than that!! Great reaction and discussion from you guys

There was a deleted scene where some tourists patronize LILO and treat her as part of the attraction so she photographs tourists to turn the tables on them. So mad they made ice cream guy in the live action a native Hawaiian instead of a white tourist cause it completely obliterates the commentary on the commodification of the native Hawaiian community. Definitely not shot for shot. This movie was a love letter to Hawaii.

And i heard the lion king wasn’t a shot to shot remake? From what I heard They took songs out and added different ones or one I guess idk and the animals were very emotionless which dulled the story a lot. This is the criticism I heard I heard many people did not like it. They are not doing a shot for shot remake for lilo and stitch. I’ll say this, as someone who’s heavily attached to lilo and stitch. The trailer looks amazing, they made some minor changes but the heart and soul still seems there, stitch is a menace but in different ways. I really think it’s going to be a hit. I’m one of those if it’s already there why make the same exact thing again. I’m open to changes that still respect the source material but takes some creative liberties here and there that feel like they would fit the original. Not too many changes but just enough to add to the story without taking what made the original great.

Tourism has led to tourists being favored highly over the natives(see the situation on Maui) and has led to decimation of their environment and native species. Not wanting to discourage anyone from going as it is beautiful, but it is unfortunate how tourism can lead to unhealthy environments for the people that live there full time.

I also loved the animated series as a kid, I'd watch it after school everyday in middle school, great memories. The Director is Chris Sanders who also did The Wild Robot and How to Train Your Dragon, really talented guy. Glad you guys enjoyed this as well, The live action doesn't look terrible so I'll probably go see it. One more side note, Disney and esp Pixar does an easter egg of "a113" in their movies which is the classroom where a lot of the founding animators and directors of Disney and Pixar attended at CalArts, it appeared on all the licence plates. So many more interesting tidbits but I'll let everyone else contribute.

We had the VHS tape, we had the DVD and then the Blue Ray. Like this movie feels like home to me. Also I always weirdly felt like their house was my grandmas house because of all the junk in the back lol

2025-03-19 19:18:18 +0000 UTCSome of the most famous/obvious fun facts for this movie: -as is somewhat easy to tell, the "space ship" stitch steals at the end was originally not a space ship, but a plane. Then 9/11 happened and for some reason the creators figured stitch commandeering a plane wasn't a good idea anymore. -the little cupboard Lilo hides in from Nani was, as is again somewhat easy to tell, originally a dryer. The also figured showing a kid using a dryer as a hiding place wasn't a good example to set. -Lilo and Nani state they are sisters several times throughout the movie, as apparently before that people weren't paying enough attention to realize Nani was Lilo's older sister and kept calling Nani a bad mom. -from the trophies we can see on the shelf, Nani probably was a rather skilled competitive surfer, but had to give up on that dream to raise Lilo instead -as is apparent by the adults' reaction, the reason Lilo is obsessed with feeding Pudge the fish is because she believes it controls the weather (since she didn't feed it the day her parents died in a storm). This actually may be somewhat true, as in one scene, when Pudge does get the sandwich, you can several dark clouds reced back on the horizon. -the reason Lilo takes a picture of the guy with the ice cream at the start of the movie, may have a bit of a darker/sader background, as, as native hawaiian, she's a bit of a tourist attraction herself, so her taking pics of random tourists is her own personal way of dealing with, and in some way fighting back against, tourists treating her more like an animal to be gaweked at, rather than a real person.

Some facts about the movie Stitch was modeled after the Boston terrier I think stitch is number 1 when it comes to character merch, he’s EVERYWHERE. In the beginning of the movie Stitch in his alien language, Tantalog, says "Meega, nala kweesta!" Meaning "I have a burning sensation in my rear end." 😂 Lilo means lost in Hawaiian and Stitch mean put together The reason Lilo beat Myrtle up is sad. It wasn’t for no reason. Lilo mentioned that she feeds pudge the fish a peanut butter sandwich every Thursday. She believes pudge controls the weather. One day she forgot to feed him and that day it was raining and her parent went for a drive. They died that day in a car accident so she believes her her fault her parents died. That’s why the other adults were looking at each other like that because they understood her thought process. One thing to note is that lilo says she likes stitch as an option for a dog AFTER finding out he survived getting hit by a truck. So she thinks he won’t leave like her parents A deleted scene shows the reason lilo takes pictures of tourist is because they would gawk at her talk down to her and take photos without her consent and were racist so to cope and gain some semblance of control she’s just take pictures of them. Although without that context it just seems like she like to take pictures to admire them In the beginning when Nani is chasing lilo. They changed it from lilo hiding in a laundry machine to hiding in a pizza box because kids were putting themselves inside those machines when the movie came out Love the relationship between Nani and lilo there characters are so realistic and well written. This is how real sister relationships are Nani is only 19 raising her little 6 year old sister. When their parented died she had to give up her dreams of becoming a professional surfer. (She already had many trophies in her room) did you catch the Mulan poster too? 👀 "Aloha 'Oe," means "Farewell to Thee," a song written by the last reigning monarch of Hawaii. Her name was Queen Liliuokalani (Lilo and Nani's names are based on hers) and she wrote the song to say goodbye to the kingdom of Hawaii during her exile, shortly after the US acquired it as a territory and later as one of the States. Nani sings the song later in the movie the night before Lilo is to be taken away by Cobra Bubbles. So she was basically saying bye to lilo David is such a great guy he’s so supportive and understanding and so sweet. Originally, the spaceship chase was originally gonna be an airplane chasing the spaceship in a city, but it was animated before 9/11, but after that happened, they had to change the design of the following ship and the landscape (bc the movie came out in 2002) Stitch’s speech at the end is so cuteeee "This is my family. I found it, all on my own. It's little, and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good." 🥹 I love that despite the fact that it’s a story about aliens and space you get real moments, social worker, family, sister relationships, coping with loss and grief, neurodivergence and so much more. This movie will always have a special place in my heart and will forever be me favorite 💖
