From my point of view, what future Immortal was saying is that mark and his family left the planet lookin for a cure because he caught some crazy illness therefore leaving immortal in charge to protect the planet while he was gone. Meanwhile immortal is waiting for mark to come back for 100s of years and went insane from all the pressure and loneliness and turned into a tyrannical king.
