The Northman is right up their alley, gladiator but vikings

charlie1097

I really liked it. Robert Eggers is a master at creating atmosphere. But his direction is not for everyone and his movies in general are considered to be niche. The pacing worked for me and I felt it was enhanced by the writing, and of course the performances. Except Aaron Taylor-Johnson, he just came across as a caricature. Also a few plot conveniences pulled it back to reach my top five of the year. Can't wait for Eggers' next project; he is directing a sequel/remake to Labyrinth 1986. Hope you guys give his movie, The Northman, starring Alexander Skarsgard and Anya Taylor-Joy a chance. It is about a Viking seeking revenge.

THIS!!! Different strokes for different folks I suppose 🤷🏻‍♀️

Roxanne LIL CRIP Kemmerer

slow pacing = 2/5 lol (but kraven the hunter is a 4)

charlie1097

You are correct, Mason Quinn. A story NEEDS to connect its audience to the characters, otherwise nothing else matters. There has to be an emotional investment.

Lauren

I'm all about romanticism and gothic horror. But i thought it was missing a little something. For me i believe it was the dive into the macabre and the darkness of human condition explored in Romanticism. The cinematrography and production are perfect, but i also believed that the paceing specially during the second act is quite slow. I really enjoyed it but i was expecting more. Also Dracula is quite a simple story, so streaching it has always been a challenge.

Javier Padilla

I heard True Blood mentioned! Definitely need to show the crew the other Vampire Skarsgård. Will say Big brother Alex smashes it in True Blood. Highly recommend.

Bella H

I LOVE vampires, I love the dark, gothic atmosphere and I love all of these actors but the movie is a 3/5, there just wasn’t enough story for me but the god-tier cinematography kept me entertained enough. Now I’m gonna keep manifesting a reaction to the Interview With The Vampire AMC show 🕯️ 🕯️ 🕯️

elena

I quite enjoyed this. I'm not much of a horror movie fan(rarely watch any to be honest) but I enjoy gothic horror novels and this movie *felt* just like one. Gothic horror is slow, creepy, dark and desolate of hope, pretty much everything this movie was. Not my favourite movie ever but it was an interesting watch. As for vampire movies, you guys should watch Only Lovers Left Alive. Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston, it's strange and sad but also intriguing and SO good imo. It's also a slower movie but I think you might enjoy it.

Natacha Pedersen

I love this movie BUT I completely understand your guys' discussion on the slow burn of it. Ultimately everything was done perfectly but because it has such a slow burn, it sort of affects the whole movie. I expected this going in, and didn't expect a typical horror but a gothic horror/romance, and so it didn't affect me the same way and I loved it. But my only nitpick was how there were moments that felt too slow, too often, that I had said just needed MORE in them. More weird, grotesque, horrific stuff. I honestly wanted much more visually graphic and (freaky?) scenes between Orlok and Ellen to really sell that aspect to me. I just felt like it was missing something in this regard. But the acting, practical effects, cinematography etc was stunning and perfect. So seeing people recognize how good it is, yet still not feeling entertained by it, isn't surprising and it's all to do with the slowness of it. Glad you guys reacted to it though!

Sarah

I agree with you guys, I decided to watch it for you but this movie is not for me, I was shocked by Nicholas acting, it was really good, and the main female girl as well but not a movie for me. I read some comments and I see the movie as weird in its first few minutes and then boring so a no no for me

Alexiani Gollarza

I agree with you. I watched for the first time with you guys. I think it was a well done movie with excellent acting, cinematography etc, but the story didn’t do it for me. I watched while laying down and fell asleep for about 20-30 minutes. When I woke, I didn’t get the vibe that I missed much of anything😂. I didn’t rewind and I won’t be watching again. I am looking forward to seeing Lily-Rose in future projects.

NS

She could be but she hasn't been in other stuff and she has zero draw to me to overlook the other stuff.

Megan

I thought Lily Rose was pretty good in this.

Bri

I saw it premiere night and the whole time I was thinking: “this just makes me want to watch Gary Oldman as Dracula” 🤣 Solid review & great reaction from y’all though! 100000% agree haha Answer’s “well-timed” comment had me in giggles seeing y’all laugh so hard 🤣

Angelina

Ftw, thought it was decent but also cringe, didn’t realize Orlok was Nosferatu, I was waiting for a bigger bad the whole time that never came, 3/5 for me

Steven Warner

I always get so surprised when you guys don’t like something cause your reactions are so engaging through out the movie 😂 definitely eggers style you might not be into then. The Witch is very similar vibes where not much is happening the whole time but you just feel dread throughout. I love this film and still had fun watching with yall!!

Cassandra

Came to the comments to see if it was worth a watch and I'm going to skip it. I tried watching The Witch 3x and got so bored with it. This movie didn't appeal to me from the get go and I just can't get behind Lily Rose's acting. Since someone said you guys gave it a low raiting, I'm going to trust you on this. I have found that EVERY TIME critics give rave reviews about horror movies, they always suck. So I'll pass on this movie like I always planned. Also, as much as I love vampires, Nosferatu as a whole never appealed to me in any iteration. So that's 4 strikes against this movie (director, LRD, critics, subject).

Megan

He’s cummin… up off the bed 😂😂😂

Steven Warner

The movie is not for me. I love horror, but I don't really into vampire, werewolves, etc

Fajar Kurniawan

had to pause and rewind for “oh he’s coming” i was so into the movie and that took me out, i was laughing so hard

wren

this is my super bowl. i’m breaking out the chicken wings for this one, fellas

hails

I watched it for the first time with you now and, even though I still enjoyed it, it's my least liked Robert Eggers movie. A slow build can be great, but this just felt way too bloated for my liking. Some scenes were incredible, others just took me out of the story. The acting, cinematography, and gothic horror romance were all great. 3.5/5

squish

The first hour was a complete bore for me. I myself almost left the theater, the 2nd hour picked up some once Willem Dafoe came into the movie.

Monica

First time watching with you guys. Don’t know why I keep trying to give vampire movies a chance, I always end up not enjoying them at all lol

Katie

I recommend to watch more movies from Robert Eggers like the The Witch, Lighthouse or The Norhman

Sam Sulek

aw so sad you guys did not enjoy this one but had a lot of fun watching your reaction haha! as a fan of gothic horror romance I loved this movie! 4.5/5

Lani Meneses

I was heavily disappointed by this movie. It had all needed elements, but fell apart in directing and writing. I usually love slow burners, but this was boring to the point that I wanted a cat to get more screentime than Nicholas Hoult or Willem Dafoe lol I also agree with BM about Nosferatu (as main villain) not being intimidating at all, this didn't helped to be invested in the story either. Overall I share BM general opinion about this film, a huge misstep on the delivery. But it's polarizing work for sure, I know people who regard this as some masterpiece (are they cursed too? lol).

Dylan Hearts

I loved this movie. The artistry is great and the slow burn really gets you immersed in the world. The low scores are interesting but not every movie is for everyone.

MynamecouldB

I personally loved this movie. I think as a woman it spoke to me a lot more. There's so much depth to Ellen and Orlok's relationship that it makes me love this movie. Personally, I think this film is a grower. I know when I watched it a second time, i liked it a lot more than I did the first time. I also love gothic horror romance so this was right up there for me. But I'm also not surprised you guys didn't vibe with it. And that's ok! It's not for everyone.

Megan Schnese

To me, this movie's only redeeming quality is it was better than The Lighthouse. Wasn't surprised, though. "I wanted to like it" is how I feel about all of Robert Eggers' films.😂

Money-Kate Olsen

This movie was not for me dont really have much thoughts but that never really caught my attention

Anthony Velasquez

I loved this movie. Like 4.5/5 for me

Clorox bleach G

Freaksferatu is peak

Jaylen

and guys, if you havent watched The Witch or the X trilogy yet please doooo 🙏🏻

vertebra

My introduction to Nosferatu was that SpongeBob episode with the Hash-Slinging Slasher! 🤣

Kaley

Havent seen this and was waiting to watch it with ya'll...lets get it.

Alyssa Dyson

"baby, you know that hedious ugly disgusting fetid vampire rat? i want to lie down with him until dawn but I still love you" ☠☠☠ i felt for nicholas hoult character

vertebra

I was quite bored by it but my partner was absolutely loving the entire thing! It seems the opinions are so 50/50

Katie Madsen

For me, everything was absolutely firing on all cylinders from the acting, to the costumes, to the cinematography, to the production design, to the color grading, to the make up and special effects… it’s such a shame the actual plot it thinner than Bible pages. None of the characters have a smidge of development or even ever pose a real threat to Count Orlock. I was so disappointed because it was hyped up so much.

ImaKatPerson

For me it was also a 2/5. Style over substance…it looked and sounded great but it was too long, boring, not scary and had a very weak middle part. I looooved The VVitch and liked the lighthouse btw💪🏻 Haven’t seen the Northman yet.

DustinEatWorld

i watched this in theatres and the couple sitting right next to me got up and left like 20 minutes in 😭

maiya

Can’t wait to watch this when I get home! Some of my friends really liked it and some didn’t so I don’t know what to expect.
